so the 20 dollar score for FFVII is good. but why didn't the shock and awe method work as well with PDS? did the owner know about the game? or was that just the first number you threw out?dedalusdedalus wrote: I've scored FFVII for $20 and Panzer Dragoon Saga for $100 using "shock and awe."

Re: Video Game "Finds of the Day"
I had a feeling that that guy kind of knew what PDS was worth, since he was also selling Shining the Holy Ark for $50. Since he clearly knew that Saturn RPGs were worth something and he expected to get $50 for StHA, I needed a pretty high number to shock and awe. I just threw out $100, and the offer stuck.final fight cd wrote:so the 20 dollar score for FFVII is good. but why didn't the shock and awe method work as well with PDS? did the owner know about the game? or was that just the first number you threw out?dedalusdedalus wrote: I've scored FFVII for $20 and Panzer Dragoon Saga for $100 using "shock and awe."

Why did you just leave?final fight cd wrote:when i first brought the cdx up to him he told me that he never tested it out, which was the original reason why there was no price on it yet. i told him i'll take my chances, just lay down a price. that is when he gave his alternative reason: "i don't know anything about it. i need to look it up."
i can't wait to see what he wants for it. i am guessing around $175-200.
for a split second i thought about doing the "shock and awe" method. but i just decided against it for some reason. he seemed pretty set that he needed to look it up first.
I never leave if I really want something. It's how I landed my Jaguar for only $30, and Nomad for $15 last week at the flea market. The guy running the place said he wanted to price them out and take them home to test, but I offered him "$20 for the Jag" to which he still said no, after which I brought out the cash and said "I've got $20 out for it now and it's not making you any money sitting there, covered in dust, in a box under all of that junk....." to which he said "Let me think about it". I casually strode over to the game wall and scanned the SNES and Genesis carts to see if there was anything interesting, and then walked back over to his main checkout/counter area after I gave him about 5 minutes to think it over. I had picked out some carts I wanted and was ready to start re-negotiating the Jag only to spot the Nomad on the back wall along a rack of random and loose games behind the counter where he keeps his big insane mess of trades and other dusty crap. So I just asked about it like if I was completely used to seeing them everywhere and they were common as hell, "So how much for the Sega?" to which he responded "The big bulky GameBoy?", "Yeah" I said, "Well I'm going to stay at $20 firm on it, you don't see these Sega GameBoy's too often"he said back. Right at that moment I knew to take my chance at bargaining everything out to a more reasonable level. So, I offered him $15 on the Nomad if he did $20 on the Jag, he mulled it over for a sec and then said $45 for both, I considered it and decided yes for a second, but took a few extra seconds to stretch the deal out so he'd assume I was really wanting it and would have to think it over as if strapped for cash. I eventually said yes, and promptly paid for both consoles and the rest of my finds (Ninja Gaiden Trilogy, Streets of Rage 3 (boxed) and a few other titles not worth mentioning) and ended up only dropping $75 for the whole lot, games and all. Not an amazing find, but one I just managed to pull through by haggling as much as I could in the situation.
Now if I would have seen a boxed Snatcher there I would have pushed the guy hard about it, backed off for a bit, leave and then return a few minutes later and try again to see what he's thinking about it, whip out the cash and begin some more forceful negotiation to hopefully get it for $5-$20. But, from the times I've spent in flea markets and pawn shops haggling and knowing how to walk away or meet someone halfway by making yourself seem interested, but disinterested in the item thanks to the price or ready to tell someone how they're not making any money on an item with it just sitting there are an invaluable skill to have in this situation.
