I have a friend who shelled out for electrolysis to deal with unwanted facial hair, and she feels it's one of the best decisions she's ever made. I've asked her about it and she says it's not painful; you just feel a short "pop" of heat per follicle and should put something cold on the treated area after each session to keep the minor swelling down (which in her case didn't last more than an afternoon).AppleQueso wrote:At least it's not electrolysis though. It's more permanent, but it's way more expensive, takes way longer, and is ridiculously painful (I mean you're getting needles shoved into your face and then an electric jolt is zapped into it after all).
She did this for her face, and it obliterated a decade of anxiety and shame. Dealing with her facial hair by conventional methods made her feel, in her words, "like a man," which bothered her more intensely than I'd realized until I saw how happy she was post-treatment. And I get it in some way, because as I get older, I'm finding I'm having to be more aware of what's going on with my own face... and although I don't feel ashamed of this, for whatever reason this is one societal pressure I feel I can't simply ignore.
I once saw a poll that showed more women worry about unwanted facial hair than financial problems. This really weighs heavily on a lot of people.
