I haven't tried SD3, but I'd heard some good stuff about it so I downloaded the fan translation.I need to finish the first game still, I'm procrastinating the grinding I need for the next dungeon. The difficulty definitely jumped.Xeogred wrote:Have you played Seiken Densetsu 3? Doesn't get much better... although I prefer Secret of Mana in some regard, SD3 gameplay wise is absolutely better in every single way. Best battle system ever, I so wish more games of this kind and Evermore were made.dunpeal2064 wrote:I don't know why, but I really liked Shadow Hearts, although I do agree it was fairly average. The Legend of Dragoon "active turn based" style really pleases me.
I've been on an SNES/SFC kick for a bit now, and have been playing Secret of Mana. Just got the Mana Fortress to uncover itself, so I'm thinking it should be done tonight. Then time to find another awesome SNES/SFC rpg that I've yet to finish.
Secret of Evermore was actually the first game in the Mana series I played, and the only one I had as a kid. I only bought it because it said Squaresoft, but I remember really enjoying it, and sucking at it. I should give that one another go soon.

finally finished Baldur's Gate 2, I take a short brake, about a half year, before I will touch it again ,and I will go for the expansion then. Great game but it can steal your soul
Now I am starting to get to know Gothic 1 better.

Minor nits, SoM is the second game, SD3 is the third, Final Fantasy Adventure/Sword of Mana is the first game (GB original, GBA remake). Evermore is not part of the Mana series, it just takes queues from the battle and menu system.dunpeal2064 wrote: I haven't tried SD3, but I'd heard some good stuff about it so I downloaded the fan translation.I need to finish the first game still, I'm procrastinating the grinding I need for the next dungeon. Re: What RPG are you playing right now?
I'm trying to finish up Ocarina of Time on the Wii VC. I started playing it at the beginning of the year (was in the water temple) and just resumed it about 2 weeks ago. I had to consult a walkthrough to refresh my memory since it was so longer since I played it.
I finished the Water Temple (that was a neat dungeon), the Bottom of the Well (also very neat) and am currently in the Shadow Temple. My youngest daughter didn't like the Well since the re-dead & the infinite hands would scare her.
I would also like to resume Bowser Inside Story. I might have to restart that game as well since I forget a lot of the details. Fortunately, I wasn't too far into the game.

I'm playing Earthbound on my snes, and boy does that game live up to its reputation!
I borrowed my friend's copy which he got for $80 two years ago, video game price inflation is ridiculous!

Re: What RPG are you playing right now?
Well, I can't bring myself to finish Secret of Mana. Either I suck total ass at this game, or the game just ramped up the difficulty like mad. I've had no issue throughout the game, and can now barely handle the regular enemies, who tend to kill me in two hits. I'm trying to use buffs, but I guess I need to go grind out levels for each style of magic, because the buffs are too weak.
So, instead I am playing Final Fantasy XIII. Finally upgraded to a flat screen, and have wanted to play this since it came out, even after hearing so many terrible things about it.
I'm on disc 2, and would already put it in a hypothetical "top 5 FF" list

first off, XIII looks absolutely gorgeous. There's no denying that.dunpeal2064 wrote:

I enjoyed the game quite a bit, and defended it big time. That said, plan on playing XIII-2 as well. I thought the sequel was actually much better.

Yeah, the game is really quite pretty. I find myself stopping and looking around far too often.
I am really surprised so many people hate on this game. Its more Final Fantasy than the series has been since X (another game I was surprised to see so much hate on). The characters all actually have something to do with the story! Plus, the new combat system actually changes the way you play, and lets you go all out much more often. There are enemies in this game harder than last bosses of some older, more praised FF games.
I am quite glad to hear the sequel is good too. Nothing more exciting than enjoying a game far more than I expected, and having a sequel to follow it up with.

I'm always shocked to see how many people have beaten Ys I, but haven't bothered with part II - especially if they're on the same disc!Shabba wrote:Shadowrun on the SNES is my current favorite and im just starting Y's Book 2 on my turboduo after beating darkfact for the billionth time in 20 or so years in Book 1.
Ys II is a much better game.
