I beat Sonic Colors on DS and it was pretty fun, so there's a vote for that. It's rather different than the Wii version too.dsheinem wrote:Along the way, there were a few phenomenal Game Boy Advance games that were much truer to the first couple of console titles in the series than anything since.

Have you played the PC Engine CD version of Book I & II? That's my favorite. It may be the best Japanese action-RPG ever. It is to action-RPGs what Final Fantasy VI and Chrono Trigger are to turn-based JRPGs.Exhuminator wrote:It's the best Ys game I've played. I beat it back in 2009. I thought it was decent but it had some issues with grinding and a weak final boss design.Have you played Napishtim yet?
I find Felghana to be way better than Napishtim and Origin to be even better than Felghana.
Re: Games Beaten 2014
Maybe I should check out Origin... I put in two hours into Oath but wasn't sure what to think of it. I wish you could have a party (Secret of Mana style) or that the game was a bit more Terranigma with puzzles and such.
I'll be completely honest, I think it was kind of the aesthetics. I'm a sucker for anime portraits and all, but the in game 3D graphics weren't anything too special. And the rocking music was almost out of place, haha. Maybe I should just start with the earlier ones.

Origin plays just like Oath (same engine) but is waaay better. It's on Steam so check that shiz out.
Re: Games Beaten 2014
I've got it, along with 1-2. Maybe I'll appreciate Oath more if I play the others and dig them. I'll check out Origin next.

Re: Games Beaten 2014
Origin really is fantastic rip roaring fun. It is Ys distilled down to its base elements. It is only just barely an action-RPG though, very lite on the RPG aspect but super heavy on the action. It's a game I think anyone would decent reflexes should at least give an hour's try.
And Bonesnapdeez I never played the Turbo CD version of Ys. I did beat the first Ys via the Ys Eternal remake for PC though. I cannot imagine how the older Turbo CD version could be better than that?!

Just beat The Wolf Among Us and I'm fucking floored.
It is now officially my favorite TellTale adventure game. Sorry Walking Dead, you've been dethroned.
Everything about this game was brilliant. The writing, the voice acting, the neon lined visuals. Early on I talked about it taking the fairytales of fables and presenting them in a world similar to David Lynch's Blue Velvet. But no. It's deeper. It's more like Mulholland Drive. There's a distinct feel that you recognize everyone but you don't know anyone. One of those dreams where you know somebody is supposed to be somebody, but you don't recognize their face. It blurs the lines between right and wrong, quaint and horrifying, pretty and violent, etc etc into a fucked up mess of childhood fear and adult responsibility and guilt. This all sounds like I'm being overly deep, but considering the execution this is a truly heavy story that presents itself like hot pink pulp.
The story progressed amazingly. I felt for characters - and I mean not people - characters like Mr. Toad, and the Woodsman, or the Little Mermaid. And when the final episode plays through with its crazy action scenes featuring one miss Bloody Mary, I was on edge. But the final act got so somber. And the game ended a note where I felt so upset and so confused. One of those games you go off to Google to try to make sense of what you've just experienced.
I still feel confused and upset.
And I think Nerissa is a really pretty name.

Glad you enjoyed it Noise. It is an utter gem.
If you enjoyed the game, you need to get into the comics, the game felt like a PG version of what happens in the comics.

Yeah, Sonic Colors DS is really just Sonic Rush 3 under a different branding.Exhuminator wrote:I beat Sonic Colors on DS and it was pretty fun, so there's a vote for that.
