I know I am a bit late with the greetings, but how are your currently played games list going? How do you feel FFX stacks up compared to the other games in the series? Also, what did you think of Shining Force? Although it is a simple strategy game, it is definitely one of my most favorite in the series. Have you played the others?
FFX has taken a backseat recently, too time consuming but I think it stands up well against the earlier FF titles. Shining Force was fantastic, I am planning on playing through the series but I've just picked up Secret of Mana which I am really enjoying but the combat system is taking some getting used to.
As for the systems you have owned in your youth, which ones do you feel are your absolute favorite and why?
Sega Mega Drive of the Gamecube, I was obsessed with Sonic and Super Mario Sunshine so they stand out the most. I also had the portable screen for the GC which made it even better.
As for current stuff, I see you have a PS4. How is that system treating you?
Loving the PS4 and hold what I found to be an unpopular view in really liking Order 1886!

Love that cover. Never played a stitch of D&D in my life, but I was present while games were being played. I used to flip through my older brother's books just for the art. Some legendary stuff.
Isn't the 'Beholder' a large swollen eyeball covered in tentacles?

This is a Beholder:

Fear them, for they are nasty. And certain rare off-breeds are even nastier.

Yup, that's the one! I remember one of my brother's friends would come over with a tackle box filled with little metal (lead?) monsters and such. One day he let me 'steal' one of these Beholders. I had that little bugger for years.

Likely it was either pewter or lead, depending on the model, who manufactured it, and when. Beholders are nasty mid- to late-game enemies that you probably won't be encountering until the party spellcasters can do some nasty damage...and then the Beholder will anti-magic them into oblivion. They are proprietary to D&D, so they don't appear in D20 offshoots. As a result, I have actually never fought one in a roleplaying campaign, though I have encountered them in video games.
Still, they are nasty, but I fear manticores, shadows, and iron golems more. And liches.

Wow, seems like you are really into this stuff. My D&D video game experience begins and ends with a 3DO game I used to have....really cool, Dracula-like intro, 3-D corridor shooter. I remember having to drop gear on the floor in favor of other stuff.

You're probably talking about either
Slayer or
Deathkeep. I played a bit of both back around 1997 but didn't really get into them and haven't tried since. If you want to go for that kind of experience again, I'd recommend looking into the Ultima Underworld series or a variety of other games.
I played a lot of Dungeons & Dragons in high school and college with Fastbilly and a few other guys(a couple of which noise knows now, like Xen, xero, and my brother Goji), among many other tabletop RPGs. At one point, I'd say I knew the game inside and out and had gotten through all sort of nasty encounters in hilarious ways. We had certain preferences in our group though, like a lot of undead. A LOT of undead. Especially if I was DMing.
I tend to play only three specific classes but consider fighters my favorite and melee to be king. That said, I'm banned from touching Sorcerer in certain circles...

Pre 90s you can safely say lead, it was the mid 80s when they started blending the two. Most, if not all, pre 1980 RPG figures were lead.
