Nice haul there, flojo. Image

I picked up a Saturn 3D pad. This was actually a freebie. The seller couldn't find the detachable cord for it, so he just threw the controller in with some other stuff I had bought from him.

Just a poster and some strategy guides,

This was a trade for some oXbox games I had gotten a couple weeks ago.

The guy even included the receipt for when he had bought the system from Brazil, back in '08.

This thing operates on the PAL-M analog TV system. No cart slot. 131 built-in games.

It works fine but I couldn't get any of my TV's to show it in color. The visuals were all in Black & White.

So I thought to try hooking it up to an old PC CRT VGA Monitor, using a composite to VGA connection.

We now have color. Thumbs up.

BTW, The Cyber Shinobi is an awful game.

If anyone was wondering as to the systems internal components,

Not much there. The pic below is not mine but it's the exact same system.

And, scored a mint in box PSOne LCD Combo. This was from an estate sale.

Price tag for it was R800 ZAR. That works out to a little under $60.

Very nice stuff, have to admit I do miss that PSOne+LCD combo box. I had that back when I worked at Midway. I'd often take it to work to play FF9 or some other stuff on lunch or dinner breaks. Oddly still worked as an escape despite working on games for a job. I think they get pretty expensive these days which is a shame. That specially attuned LCD they had for the PS1 was great because it didn't suffer the usual lighting/darkening and other issues first gen 3D systems get plagued with on various non CRT TVs.

 I did not know you used to work for Midway! Oh you have got to create a Thread on your time there with any iside information that are not confidental. You must have scored all kinds of employee souvenoirs, please post pictures as well.

That LCD on the PSOne is beautiful, I have a similar version with my PSOne. A nice small transportable console.

Thanks for posting this. I had no idea what these Tectoy systems look like on the inside. I was not expecting to see contacts sealed with hot glue gun. That's some fine craftsmanship there.

Edit: and why in gods name is the power cord routed right under the A/V outputs with no electromagnetic shielding? There's plenty of room inside the case. The engineers ran the power cable through the word possible place. What where they thinking?

Another edit: and a glass fuse in a place that's not meant to be user accessible? I mean... that's better than no fuse at all, but still... If you're going to use glass fuses, you need to give the user convenient access to replace them.

Image

I'm starting to question the decisions of the engineers at Tectoy.

That facepalm image always makes me chuckle. lol

So that SMS of mine is the 2008 model.

If it's of any interest, here are the innards of the 2006 Tectoy SMS (120 built-in games)

And the 2007 Tectoy SMS (131 built-in games)

Except for the blue case color, that one looks the same as the "2008" version.

I probably could do that, but I'm more surprised you didn't know as I used to bring it up depending on the subject as I'd throw it in there as a way to validate old stories I've shared over the years. I started getting people making fun of me over it like I was making stuff up so I laid off it because since I don't have hard evidence of verbal conversations or eyes only stuff from then that somehow makes it a rumor at best and realistically a lie for others.

Stuff I've bought up like Sony Media with teeth into Nintendo and Sega came from there, old supervisors stories. Stuff about how DOOM was intended but not as it was released for SNES. Stories about the development of various games I was on, around me, or before that time I used to go into. Doubtful it's all that easy to look up. I mean if some people are that curious I probably could write something up, just not sure I'd make a thread here just as it would be begging for more mindless ridicule and arguing which I'm not in the mood for anymore.

Either way that PSOne LCD I think was the best gaming LCD ever from that era. Somehow games that jsut didn't work right on a normal LCD TV of that era were great on that little one. Old games on it, Saturn and n64 would sometimes use lighting effects by triggering the behavior of the CRT itself. With the CRT out, suddenly you could have an area that should be lit with shadows that's just a blacked out mess now and unplayable. Rogue Squadron on N64 has this issue with night time planet side stages.

Dude, I'm totally down for Midway stories. Why would you lie? Who gives a fuck about impressing anyone on here? Regale us with hilarious tales.

This isn't really the thread for it. I know I can't be the only one on this site who worked in the gaming industry or gaming media. It could make for an interesting stories thread.

Go for it, create a brand new Thread. Please throw in pictures direct in your OP; edit as you find more things in the closet. Metal Jesus posted a video on his time at Sierra.

Not really a comics book collector, but I've always been a fan of this Franco-Belgian western series.

Picked these up for the equivalent of about $10,

Image

Found a Mega Drive Model 1 at a garage sale.

For only $5, but the thing was in awful shape and listed as not working.

Took it apart, cleaned it good. Looks a bit better now.

Image

So the thing powers on but it's just showing a black screen when tested with MD games.

Cart slot is now clean, pins look fine. So it's not that.

There seems to be no broken trace or cold solder point on the board.

The 7805's test fine.

One of the Ram chips looks a bit corroded, though. I'll start with replacing that and take things from there.

Good news is that even in its current state, it still functions as a Master System. In other words- the SMS games via a PBC work fine on it.
