Well, I just watched The Seventh Seal, Ingmar Bergman's film about a knight who returns from the crusades only to find Death, so he challenges him to a game of chess. It's a great look into the existence of God and what ultimately happens to everyone. I found the parade of people whipping themselves particularly disturbing, and extremely well choreographed and filmed. Awesome stuff if you don't mind foreign films from the 1950s.

I've been wanting to see that, but every time it comes on IFC, I always miss it. Like last time, when I had to go to work.

Aside from that, the first halves of Class of Nuke Em High (Troma classic, courtesy of my old Media-brand VHS) and Return to Oz (courtesy of the Disney DVD, but it froze up halfway through). And most of Poultrygeist. I was watching it on my portable DVD player on my way up to my aunt's house on Saturday. Anyway, I stopped just after the general turned into a giant egg and hatched.

Netflix it, REPO. It's the only way I figured I'd ever see it.

I just watched Alphaville. It's a weird French film that's kinda difficult to describe. The plot follows a spy sent from the Outlands to Alphaville to bring back or assassinate the head scientist who invented Alpha-60, a super computer which dominates the citizens of Alphaville's minds. It was nothing short of absolutely bizarre, though I still enjoyed it. Oh, and Alphaville's means of exterminating dissent? They shoot you in the back so you fall in a swimming pool, and synchronized swimmers with knives finish you off. Seriously. Weird film.

Unfortunately though the Criterion Collection released the DVD, it seems they did little to save the film quality. Flashes to negative, scratches and dirt on the film, a couple missing frames and even a few massive tears...I figure it's because the title isn't worth the cost to restore it, but I still felt bad seeing it in that condition.

I was going to go see Repo, but decided to help a friend with a project for her masters instead. Friends saw it and the review was mixed. Instead I watched Zazie Rides the Metro.

Cheers Chrono

I can't just "Netflix it", cuz I don't have it.

I had it back in '04 and again early last year.

But that was something my Mom did, and the first time, she cancelled it due to the fact that with only 3 movies at a time, you'd have to keep them for only a short while. And the second time was a money issue.

But I'm gonna try to get Netflix again, cuz the video rental place down here usually only has the major titles and some str8-to-DVD stuff.

Am I the only one here who thinks M. Night Shyamalan's movies are usually well crafted and even watchable, despite all the obvious plot holes and predictability (not to mention how most people find them uneventful/boring)? His chilling commentary on real life issues through suspense just doesn't sit well with people, who mistakenly expect horror flicks instead (isn't helped by how his movies are being marketed). He did slip a bit with The Happening though.. I generally like the acting of Marky Mark and Zooey Deschanel but both were bad choices.

Well I finally watched Gattaca last night. It was ok, I enjoyed it, but something irked me about it the entire time. There was a lot left unexplained that I had wanted to know about. It's worth watching once I suppose, but I doubt I'll ever want to see it again.

Watched Hidalgo last night. It was entertaining but hardly realistic. It seemed rather like something out of One Thousand and One Nights.. its blatant inaccuracies shed doubt on the claimed tale of Frank T. Hopkins but the film was enjoyable if one is to disregard all illogical elements.

Also rewatched Terminator 3 earlier and it's just appalling. The series pips it in every way imaginable (except for big budget special FX of course). I'm glad it's been proven Arnie isn't essential to the Terminator franchise anymore. If Salvation is any good James Cameron will also be considered the same (though he will remain the ultimate Terminator director since it is his brainchild after all).

Oh wow, I have to say I loved that film, I thought the soundtrack was great mainly though which spurred me on through the film.
