"Time flies like an arrow, fruit flies like a banana" - Julius "Groucho" Marx.

Any chance I have to use that quote, I'm going to use it.

I downloaded the "undub" version to get the
Japanese voices, so when I go to 2,it will be a smoother transition. Plus I forgot bow bad the English dub was.

Shenmue II thankfully added that feature, namely because there are a lot of "meet me at [time]" moments there.

I only bought soda to get those special raffle cans, they come up fairly often.

I'm actually alright with the bad english dubbing, it was part of the charm. Newcomers however who are put off by it is also understandable. I guess I can now safely play Shenmue 2.

There's some real charmers over at Shenmue Dojo... I guess I forgot what most other forums are like and took for granted how nice we all are here.

So, did anyone catch Yu Suzuki's AMA on Reddit?

Jay_red, are you playing 2 on the Dreamcast? I'd love an undub for 2, but I only have it on Xbox. Maybe I should fire up disc juggler and make burns for both Shenmue and Shenmue II on Dreamcast.

I did, I read the recaps. Evidently Suzuki-san answered questions for five hours straight? What a champ! I'm slightly worried that Shenmue 3 won't wrap up the story, and that he'll be looking for more. Mainly because he stated that Ryo won't return to Japan in this game. What does it all mean!?

Just to warn you, if you play a rip of Shenmue 2 on the Dreamcast, I think the voices are taken out of the game for the NPCs (or there's a version where the sound is really horribly compressed and sounds bad, but nothing is taken out).

As for the AMA, yup, Suzuki answered questions for 5 whole hours. It was awesome! Also, Shenmue 3 definitely won't be the end. I'm sorry to disappoint you, but Suzuki has always said that (and he still is saying this), as there's just too much to cram into just one more game. He doesn't want to sacrifice his vision or the story.

Shenmue was once a 16 chapter story. Since the release of Shenmue 1, it has been reduced to 11 chapters.

Yu Suzuki said in the AMA that Shenmue will be 5 games max, but possibly 4 with a few cuts.

I plan on playing 1 and 2 on the dreamcast so I can transfer the save over. If you burn 2, the small conversations with NPC's had the audio cut to fit on the CD-R. its not that big of a deal, and all the cut scenes have the voices like normal. I played a bit of the burned version years ago and did not find it bothersome that the audio was cut. I have the PAL version now and can play it in all its glory.
