can anybody actually point to any proof of this free month of FF XI? I tried finding it on the official website, and couldn't find anything referencing such a thing.

found a 14 day trial: http://finalfantasyxi.com/freetrial/

not sure on the 30, though

so can I nominate a shmup or not? can we get bruno and jmustang in here to weigh in on whether it makes sense to coordinate with SOTM and TRPG for potential months of playing games in those genres? Or are we skipping RPGs and shmups? I feel like some clarification is needed well in advance of any decisions being made...

It's listed as 30 days on this official webpage. FOURTH BULLET DOWN!

All the shmups and rpg's nominated are being voted and tracked in AJ's master list and the OP hasn't suggested to stop doing so.

I still think the OP should create a new thread w/poll questions to get it all sorted - reading through this thread is a bit confusing and a lot of good titles are being overlooked w/ all the deus x and shmup/rpg / no shmup/rpg talk.

I'm in the mindset of democracy here. Meaning, if RPGs and shmups get the most votes, then so be it.

I also feel like if a shmup or RPG gets picked, and Bruno and JM want to skip a month to let folks participate here, then cool. But the shmup or RPG should be chosen by the community as a whole, not by bruno or JM personally - though of course their input and votes weigh as much as anyone else's.

If you feel like more clarification is needed, then I guess we can start a poll to get an official yes/no on the issue. Though my feeling from all the nominations that have been done is that the majority is for including an RPG at least.

we can't in good faith vote for them if we're not sure they are on the ballot.

it's a free country my man. Vote for any game you want regardless of genre.

But I can see you're stressing yourself out over this. I'll go ahead and make a poll.

It's just a matter of clarification of procedure. Last year the argument that was "we have a club, so these are out" and people stopped nominating those genres. If we are doing that again, it would be good to know. If we're not certain, then a poll makes sense.

how about "since they already have their own club, should shmups and RPGs be included for consideration in next year's Together Retro?"

As worded now, it might lead one tho think the genres would be NECESSARILY included if the poll comes out in favor...
