@Exed - can you link me to a rom you have? I've put 4 roms into my roms folder, using the build of MAME you linked on page 22. Everything looks great until I do the, "Click available" hit F5 to search...the roms show as being in the roms folder, but they aren't showing up in MAME. They are extracted.
I've tried Varth, Batrider, Hotdog Storm and 1943 - all from romnation.
EDIT: to be clear. I download the rom. I go into my downloads and extract the file. I then put the extracted file into MAMEU1320.141
I then open MAME. I then move the extracted file into the roms folder. I then launch MAME, go to available (which shows nothing available). I then hit F5, which does a search and comes back with "No Selection".

Ok first of all, the roms do not need to be extracted. The .zip files just need to be put in the MAMEUI32/roms folder, nowhere else.
If they are not coming up after an F5 scan in MAMEUI32, it could be that those romsets are incomplete, because it either has a missing ROM or a filename in the romset is bad and needs to be renamed. You can find out whatever issue it is in MAMEUI32 by going to File > Audit all games and it will run a scan. In the Details box it may say stuff like NO GOOD DUMP KNOWN or BAD DUMP, but that should not affect the game unless it explicitly says something like "NOT FOUND", that would be your clue that the game will not be found in MAMEUI32 because of an issue such as a missing ROM. If any of those games aren't showing up, that could be the reason.

Exed covered most of the bases, but a few things to add, just in case they happen to help:
Under All Games, if you search up the game you are looking for, you can figure out which version is the parent rom (Its pretty easy to tell, the parent rom is further to the left than its subsets) Often this is needed to run ANY version of the game. (For example, lets say Contra (World) is the parent rom, and you are trying to play Contra (Japan). Most of the time, you will need both Contra (World) AND Contra (Japan) to play Contra (Japan), assuming Contra (World) is its parent rom.)
In this same section, you can right-click a game and go to properties. Here, you can see what name MAME is searching for when looking for this game. Often, you will just need a simple name change. Say, I want to play Batrider (Japan B), and I download it from emuparadise.com. It will probably come out as "batrider", but in properties it says it is looking for"batriderj", so a simple rename will do.
Granted, I am pretty sure it is just that you are extracting the roms that is causing you issue, but I use these 2 tricks above to troubleshoot a lot of my roms that don't work.
...also, why have Noise/Hash not told us our game yet?
MY demand is frothing!!

Eh, might as well be something familiar. Is this going to be Arcade only or Arcade/DC?

True, BUT, of the 23 Racket STGT members participating here, only 8 submitted scores for November 2012, so this is a new pick for 2/3 of 'em. I'm part of the 1/3, and I like the pick myself because I love this game - I think it's a good pick. It plays smoother than Giga Wing, the soundtrack is AWESOME, and the mechanics are different than most shmups and take 3 seconds to understand and months to master how and when to use, so it's a good pick for STGT imo.ExedExes wrote:WE ALREADY PLAYED THAT IN NOVEMBER 2012!!!11!1!!11!!!!1!11!1!!!!!!!11!!!!!!noiseredux wrote: Week 2, #11...

Joe, I imagine you already have them, but the rest of you guys - those are excellent prices on Giga Wing and Mars Matrix. Those prices are SHIPPED.
