While I don't like the used disc fee, it most likely won't bother me. As I bought very few used games this gen.

What did you think of its competitors?

The PS4 I felt was very similar. Cloud gaming.....ok....the Playstation Eye....eh. Graphics, yes an improvement. I don't care about the user interface. The games, we saw a lot of this stuff before. Is it bad? Like I said before, not really. I just feel like it all is the same old stuff.

I do feel that there is a big push from big name publishers to quell the used game market and they are pulling their weight to get those measures in place on the console companies. I don't know if the PS4 will do that and I hope they don't.

With the WiiU, yes it lacks the games, but those that are there so far have been fun. I own the system for one of many reasons. I am a huge social gamer so I love to play with other people in the room, so games like NintendoLand, New Super Mario Bros U, Game & Wario appeal to me. Also, I love the fact that the system is more defined.

What I mean by that is that it has a clear vision on what it wants to achieve and it is working to do that. Its integration of the Miiverse has been really fun and interesting. The game pad has been used in really cool and unique ways so far. I just wish that they did a better job marketing the system and that there were more games out there for it.

What I see from the upcoming generation of game systems isn't impressive because I can achieve a lot of this stuff already. Why allow me to control my cable box with a game controller or a Kinect if I can do that with the remote control on the coffee table in front of me? I don't want an Xbox to replace Netflix or Hulu, Cable TV or my PC. I feel like that system is trying to do so.

I will stick to my WiiU/classic consoles/PC for now. They achieve what I want out of a gaming experience.

That's usually true anytime a new generation is revealed. Last time it was "oh, ok: the same games but in HD" or "oh, ok I can go online like I have for a decade or more on PCs". There's rarely a big jump between polished last gen titles and the launch titles of a new gen in terms of content (gameplay styles, visuals, etc.)...the excitement comes largely from the possibilities years down the road.

I'd say that one thing that this gen introduced and got right was the online integrated store as a place to find a broader array of classic and niche titles, indie games, and expanded content for AAA releases. That didn't exist in any profitable form last generation. It opened up this gen to a wider variety of tastes than was true in the PS2/Xbox/GCN era. So my excitement (or lack thereof) about any next-gen console comes from what I can glean from these pressers about future potential. From the Xbox One one, I got almost zilch about how games will be different/changing.

This is what tarnishes the Xbox One to me. So far the first impression is that it diverges from being a video game console. If it's just features we're talking about, now we have a cable box and a Xbox One that do fundamentally the same thing? One requires you to push a few buttons, the other voice commands and hand gestures?

It's sleek and minimalist to make it part of your home entertainment system. It's got a decent design. But when you reveal a next generation console, it's judged by what came before. I didn't see many games revealed today, nor did I expect them to throw all the cards on the table less than a month from E3. Instead, I felt games were secondary, which is likely not the case. But a media center focus is hardly innovative or bringing something new to the table.

It's not horrible, it has some neat new innovations, but what I'd want to use it (playing shmups Halodating sims) for seemed secondary to the media center approach I thought was heavily stressed today.

Totally understandable. I can't really argue that. It's potential down the road and what it actually can achieve can change, much like it did with Nintendo's handhelds, the 3DS and the original DS, which started off horrible, but then down the road became insane sensations. That is also why I invested in the WiiU in the first place, because I saw and liked the idea of what the system could achieve.

With these other systems, I will wait and see. I don't have any need or desire to grab them right now, but years down the road, that may very well change.
