I must say Noise, in general I think your taste in horror is excellent. I especially love the nod to NOTD even though I like part 2 a lot for it's campy charm and hate the remake because of Edward Furlong.

This thread had me remembering an old time favorite called Cellar Dweller. It might be terrible if I was able to rewatch it today but I used to love that movie. Anyone else ever see it? I can't find it to purchase except for on a sketchy website that burns rare movies to dvd and sells them like they are legit. I'm still tempted to pick it up though just for the memories.

I also made Trick 'r Treat a Halloween staple. I am always tempted around this time of year to pop in the Bluray but I wait until Halloween night after the kids go to bed. It is infinitely more charming on the actual night.

For my part this month so far...

Suspiria
Blood Simple
A Tale of Two Sisters
Audition (Watched this again thanks to Hobie's kiri kiri kiri remark, I couldn't resist)
The Descent
Shutter (The original not the remake)
Killer Joe - Anyone conflicted about this? I thought it was decent but the jury is still out.
Freddy vs. Jason so I could watch Freddy drop some elbows (not really)

A lot more in the queue I've been trying to beef up my horror Bluray collection but a lot of them don't see good releases. Any suggestions?

The sequels are alright. But I enjoyed the remake a lot. Shannon Elizabeth made a great Angela I thought.

Gosh. I KNOW I've seen Cellar Dwellar -- I think because I was shocked to find a film with the same title as a 90's hip hop group haha. But I barely remember the flick now. You have me intrigued to find it again.

Yeah we ALWAYS watch Trick 'r Tread on Halloween night. It's so perfect.

Oh, not far...I have been crazy busy so more lurking than participation these days. :D

Here is the movie at said shady website...
http://www.twistedanger.net/index.php?p ... 16&dvd=143

I might risk it for a copy. It isn't expensive but there is some questionable stuff on the site as far as what he offers. I doubt anyone will come hunting me down for this though.

Friday the 13th Part VI Jason Lives

Easily one of my favorites of the series, if not my favorite. Jason Lives is the only one to actually take place at Camp Crystal Lake with actual campers there. It's a pretty great blend of everything the series has to offer really. It's definitely a little more tongue-in-cheek than the others, but any of its comedic moments are very self-aware (the grave-digger breaking fourth wall for instance). Just totally fun. I also kind of love that at the end they don't even kill Jason. They're just like, "whatever. He's stuck in the lake. Let's just get out of here."

Friday the 13th Part VII The New Blood

Kane Hodder FTW!

I've always been mixed on this one. The telekenetic girl is kind of a meh plot for me. But hey, at least they were trying some new stuff. A definite hint at all the weird directions the series would take in the near future. The sleeping bag scene is of course classic though. Haha.

(Michael Bay's) Texas Chainsaw Massacre

Dammit this movie sucks. I hadn't seen it since like 2005 or so. But yeah. Still sucks. Luckily only *watched* it as it was on at a Halloween party but there was music playing too loud to actually hear the TV. It was just kind of on the screen for ambience. I will say this though: there's one really amazing scene in the film, as far as cinematography goes. It's the bullet-thru-the-head scene. However, that scene loses a lot when you realize that it's basically just what Argento did with the peephole scene in Opera. Only Argento did it better. Oh well.

@Luke: I did finally see the Evil Dead (2013) trailer. Twice. I'm excited. I love the fact that there's no Ash character. It doesn't even seem like a remake to me. I feel like they're basically just giving us Evil Dead 4, but kind of passed it off as a "remake" because that's what studio execs feel will sell. Also, it looks like it's filmed with a lot of sick make-up instead of CGI. And it looks ridiculous like the knifed-tongue at the end of the trailer. Yeah. Excited.

I love THE NEW BLOOD. To me it is the quintessential slasher flick that every horror parody tries to emulate. It's also the first movie I saw boobies in, so bonus points for that. The slimy psychologist is great, even the throwaway campers are pretty good, and the lead does a great job at looking scared, and then angry, and then back to scared. This movie has my favorite "Jason face reveal" in the entire series. Love Jason's look
so much in this movie that I thought about purchasing one of those overpriced figures from movie collectibles (or whatever it is called).

I have an on going argument with a friend who has firmly stated "Kane Hodder is the best Jason who has never been in a decent Jason movie". I think VII is a decent Jason movie.

Yeah the new EVIL DEAD surprisingly looks like nothing I've seen. Well, besides the cabin of course. One thing EVIL DEAD and Cody have in common: being very quirky. This could really turn out to be something great.

Cool, that site actually stocks the movie too. Thanks Noise! :D

Do they ship out with any kind of commercial type packaging or do you just get some DVD-Rs in the mail? The price is very reasonable. Any suggestions from the stock list? I'll probably order the 5 for $30 but at the moment it only includes Cellar Dweller.

I don't give an aggressively and awkward gesticulation about topping that.

I picked up some cheapy Blurays at Walmart...

Frailty - $5
The Hole/Venom - $5 (Venom was given priority on the single disc unfortunately, since it is quite inferior to the hole)
Amityville Horror (remake) - $7.88

I wish they would have had the prophecy double pack with all the miramax stuff that was $5. I usually prioritize quality releases but for the price of a sandwich I can make exceptions. The Hole actually had pretty good picture quality albeit in a probably wrong aspect ratio and unfortunately a stereo track. I didn't care about Venom and it got 3 different 5.1 tracks even a DTS-MA track. At least with both of them crammed on the single disc they used a dual layer.

Watched The Host last night. It is a favorite as well since it came out. So entertaining, just be sure to skip the dubbed version at all costs. This movie defies genre classification and has an old time charm to it even though it isn't old. It does have some propaganda aspects but those are an aside to a really great movie and easily overlooked.

Also, it isn't a horror flick but does anyone else love CJ7? What a quirky little flick. The whole family enjoyed that one.
