Bestbuy cut the prices for NeoGeoX's in half, $100 for the console, $25 for the stick. And before you rush over to their site, they are sold out.
But $100 for the console puts it in impulse buy range.

Release dates for the new cards have been pushed back to May 30 - at least according to Amazon.

Has anyone kept up with the hacking scene for this? Do they have custom headers working yet?
Edit:
Some youtubing has shown that you can use any jpg as your header if you are running a modded SD card.

So new cards or rather a new card is coming....seriously what exactly do they plan on doing with this system? It has so much potential but they are handling the release and support for this thing pretty poorly so far...BoneSnapDeez wrote:Release dates for the new cards have been pushed back to May 30 - at least according to Amazon.

I kinda think they should do what Nintendo did with the e-Reader games.Godot102 wrote:So new cards or rather a new card is coming....seriously what exactly do they plan on doing with this system? Put one game on a card, toss 'em in some cheap packaging, and charge a low price (like $8 per game). Nice and simple and very collectible.
But they've been way too hush-hush about the upcoming game cards, who knows if we'll ever end up seeing them at all. Amazon lists them for May 30th but there's nothing on the official Neo Geo X page!

I know! It's like they don't want to make money....There are so many games they could be releasing on it but NO instead were just going to maybe quietly release something eventually...maybe it sells maybe it wont, who knows. How do they possibly expect to make any money this way?BoneSnapDeez wrote:I kinda think they should do what Nintendo did with the e-Reader games.Godot102 wrote:So new cards or rather a new card is coming....seriously what exactly do they plan on doing with this system? Re: Official Neo Geo X Gold System details and price announc
So I finally picked up the X, got it for 99 shipped from sevin0seven here. I had been so excited to get this when it was about to come out, but after all the negative reviews started rolling in I was glad I hadn't dropped the 200 bucks on it. At $99 though, I feel that I can take the chance, and maybe forgive all of its alleged "short comings".
My first impression after getting to see and feel it for myself, is that its a little cheaper feeling than I thought. The handheld is lighter than it seemed, and the plastic on the dock also leaves something to be desired. Anyway, I fired up the handheld looking forward to seeing if the video quality was as bad as reported, and at first it seemed so, under the bright lights in my break room at work (where I had the package sent) but at home, it looks much better.
The real reason I wanted this system in the first place though was for the docking station/controller, so I really wanted to plug it in and check it out. I tried first, on the 13 inch TV at work with composite (did any one else catch that the box states "component" cables?) and holy crap it looked bad. The game select screen was almost un readable, it was so blurry and dark. Games looked a little bit better, but far from acceptable. Maybe my CRT in the game room will give better results. I got it home and put it on my 42 inch via HDMI, and while the menus once again look like crap, the games look pretty good, apart from the horrible screen tearing that happened way too often. whats up with the menu that comes up when you press "menu" that thing is so low resolution!
I have had very limited use on a real AES arcade stick, but this one more or less felt similar. Its nothing compared to all the top end sticks I have though (Hori RAP v3, Madcatz TE, Madcats pro) but gives a more authentic feel. I already took the stick apart to see what makes it tick, and I stretched the spring a little bit to give it more tension, and swapped that tiny ball top for a normal sized one.
So overall, its not everything I hoped it would be (but I was aware of that since it launched) but still provides a nice experience, and the games are all fun (thats what really matters in the end). I look forward to what the hackers will be able to come up for this thing, I would love to be able to run other emulators, especially NGPC, since it is the only thing that can give the same experience with the thumb stick.

Your detailed impression of the unit is much appreciated.
Re: Official Neo Geo X Gold System details and price announc
So I tore into the NGX arcade stick, and found the internals interesting. I felt like the stick was just plastic on plastic grinding, so I wanted to remedy that. Sorry I didnt take pics, but I will try to describe the parts I am talking about the best I can.
Well the first thing I did (which was mentioned already) was stretch the spring a little to get better tension, and swap out the tiny ball top for a standard size one. I took the stick apart all the way and found that the half sphere that pivots in the groove was pretty much dry, so I was just going to grease that up. I noticed that the part right below that (that sits at the top of the spring) was pretty tight on the shaft, and didnt move as freely as it should. I proceeded to sand off all the black paint off the lower part of the shaft to make it smooth (there is no way to describe all of this without sounding sexual) then I made sure the hole on the part that moves on the shaft was smoothed and greased. I put it all back together and it was a world of difference! No grinding, and it feels a lot better. I might have stretched the spring a bit too much, as the stick is kind of stiff, but its much better than it was stock.
After doing all of this, it is just "ok" in my book, I am not sure why the Neo Geo guys go crazy for the AES sticks, they dont feel "premium" and there are much better options out there. I would look into modding a different stick into the NGX case, but its probably not worth the time based on how much I will actually be playing it.
If anyone is interested in what I did and has any questions, feel free to ask.
I also got a chance to try out the dock on my CRT in the game room via composite, and I have to say, it looks pretty good. Its not as sharp as my NGCD on s-video, but it really is quite acceptable, borderline good looking. I didnt notice any screen tearing, but I only played a few minutes.
