STALKER really requires some modification to get the full effect, and it's not a very fast-paced FPS.
It has nothing to do with the frame rate or graphics, it has to do with the game not being fun.
I find it fun to sit and stare into the distance, wondering if the patch of grass in front of me will eat me.
Anyway, you have to patch STALKER because it's so horribly optimized. And from there, a couple more fan patches help further, because even fully patched, the game's a buggy mess. But mods like Complete and Oblivion Lost...those make the game into true horror titles, with pitch-black nights, more enemies, realistic guns, random blowouts...yeah.
I could see getting Complete again for the bug fixes and all, but yeah it just seems pointless to me to get that and then have to turn down like everything to the lowest settings possible probably, ruining the effect of the better atmosphere/graphics. I dunno, maybe I'll just wait to play Stalker again sometime when I get a better PC, whenever that might be... lol.
Just finished setting up Rage.. even with the performance driver it's got texture problems.. Nothing game-breaking but was hoping for a better PC experience from id. Amnesia can wait

From what I've watched of RAGE, it looks like it plays much more like Wolfenstein 2009 (which is one of my favorite modern FPS games along with TF2 and HL2). Those playing it tell me how you like it.
Anyways, I'm giving HL2 another go around on the oXbox. It's amazing that the levels and content are untouched, and the graphics while low resolution still have tons of detail with nice textures and bumpmaps.
The Source engine still feels wrong with a controller though.

I'm thinking I'll pick it up for PS3 once it's no longer $60. Looks like fun, as id games usually are.

Just finished Rage. Typical id storytelling (or lack thereof), typical 30 second ending, typical gameplay mechanics.. Everything about Rage is typical id stuff. Borderlands is the better game overall.
Oh and <spoiler> why give me a BFG when I didn't even need to use it? Silly silly silly.</spoiler>

Just beat it on PC. This game was the biggest let down I've had in a long time. While some of the game play was really fun, this game just felt like a glorified tech demo.
Good thing I picked up Portal 2 for $15. I've been enjoying that way more.
