I'm dying to get my hands on a master system. I was an nes kid growing up and I didn't know anyone with a master system so I've never played it. I already have 5 or 6 games, just waiting on a good deal for the console.

What are your games? Just dying of curiosity.

If I were you, I'd probably just get a power base converter and an original Genesis system to play on. Of course, a few games still require a Master system controller (Bomber Raid comes to mind).

Either way, do yourself a favor and get A/V cables for it (the same cable works across both Master system and a model one style Genesis). I am done fighting with RF forever.

I don't really have anything great yet, Thunder Blade, Lord of the Sword, and Time Soldiers.

I have an original Genesis with an RGB SCART cable going into a 20" Sony PVM monitor. I've considered getting a power base converter. Although I think I'd still want to use the original Master System controllers to get the original feel of the games.

I actually have 5 (I think) different systems with RGB SCART cables, I just switch them out in the back when I want to play a different system. It only takes a second but I'd really like to get an SCART switch. I've done a fair amount of searching and can't seem to find an affordable SCART switch that doesn't have some sort of reported issues.

SCART, even better!
So you're ahead of me there anyways. I'm stuck with normal A/V options, but they serve my purpose well enough.

I never have enough patience with Lord of the Sword. One of these days I may just emulate the game and re-map "up" to a separate button for jumping.
I really do like hearing what people have in their collections though, even when it's small and humble (I may even find it more interesting because of it).

And like I said with the controller, you may not have a choice, depending on the game. And I do understand preserving the original experience...
...but...
As for myself, I always take a better controller if it's available (original feel be damned  ).

man, diving back into the SMS library, there's so many great Genesis ports that are almost wholly other games, but late releases so the nearby TRU had already dumped the SMS by then.

related: Zillion is near the top of my list for games needing a modern remake.

It took me a long time to warm up to Zillion but once everything clicked I fell in love with it.

There are things about the first Sonic game I actually prefer to the Genesis Sonic 1. It's just such a fun, pleasant platformer.

And then there's Sonic and Power Strike.
I grabbed Sonic and Sonic 2 for my dad when I found them in a retro store in Paris. Figured I was going to bring them back would be cheaper than paying an inflated price and then have to ship them.

It can be somewhat tedious at times, but I find the jumping in Zillion to be a little bit more responsive than the spin jumping in Metroid.

Like the original Metroid, it's just one of those games that really throws you to the wolves at first with a really weak character. Once you start progressing and leveling up things get a lot more enjoyable.

My first impression was sour but when I sat myself down intent on beating the game it was a really fulfilling experience. A modern remake would be really nice. It's just another one of those IPs Sega is sitting forever that would probably get attention if they decided to revive it.

I just got a Master System and I like it and all but... the controllers suck!

I think I am going to use my Genesis pads from now on.

There are a few games that require the Master System pad due to programming or something (Bomber Raid is one) but for most games I use he Genesis pad. Much better.
