:? Might be getting slightly better. I just did a few scans and cleared out some nasty shit (hopefully) and currently doing a full scan with Avast! Free Antivirus 2015.

Task Manager doesn't show the malware program that keeps cropping up (something called oxumgtwre.exe or something like that and it's described as Google Chrome, and it kept appearing randomly in a subfolder in one of the folders in the AppData/LocalLow folder).

Smile: Some stories I saw on Kotaku indicate that the WiiU version of Sonic Boom might have some issues serious enough that Sega has neglected to send out codes for review copies ahead of retail launch. Good thing I have time to cancel my pre-order, just to be safe.

Frown: E-mail from Amazon: Your order has shipped.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

And I'm pretty sure the only way to kill it with fire would be to kill my laptop in the process and I don't have the money to replace it.

A physical disc? Should not need one to do a system restore/reformat. If not possible, then just torrent a copy of XP for the rare time you actually need Windows.

Do the restore, then install a linux distro you can dual boot into, I prefer Mint opposed to Ubuntu. Learn the simple ins and outs and you will only need to boot up Windows if you absolutely have to.

Is it really necessary for every time someone needs to reformat their machine for some reason that someone else needs to come in with "install Linux"?

Yes.

You see, there is actually federal legislation involved, in which any time someone mentions installing an OS, Linux fans immediately shout "Linux" over all others. This is because of a legal case involving Linux kernel creator Linus Torvalds, in which he discovered that Linux users literally spent all of their waking time masturbating furiously to the sound of their OS booting.

Lawsuits were launched by distraught family members and university legal departments over the excessively high number of sexual exposures and crimes occurring as a result of this continuous masturbation by Linux fans, resulting in the landmark Supreme Court case Penn State v. Torvalds in 1998, where the Supreme Court decided 5-4 to require some method to ensure Linux fans halt their extreme masturbation for some period of time. It was determined the best way to do this was to require Linux users to berate other computer OSes and recommend Linux distros with zealous fervor whenever possible, to provide them a break from their chronic self-pleasure.

Seriously, guys. Linux-based masturbation can lead to some serious long term side effects, such as difficulty urinating, reduced sexual potency, and behaving like a socially inept nerd any time the word "windows" or "apple" is mentioned. It has caused a lot of damage to the window washing industry, and it is speculated that our agricultural system will take decades to recover.

Considering the dude is on a very tight budget and probably needs to get the most out of his assumedly not brand spanking new laptop, then yes. Just trying to help a brother get to NYC.
