So what have you guys been watching lately?

I put off watching Jessica Jones until the holidays since I have a total of 11 hours of flying (Seattle to Chicago, Chicago to Vegas, Vegas to Seattle). I'm now five episodes in and holy shit, this show is awesomely intense. Family friendly this is not.

I enjoyed Jessica Jones overall. Tennant was in his element as a horribly creepy villain that I'm sure fuckwits will spend their time trying to defend in blogposts for years to come and Kyrsten Ritter as Jessica herself was excellent, blending being badass and vulnerable. Good support cast (quite liked the left-field choice of Nuke as secondary antagonist), very dark themes and the promise of Trinity fingerbanging a hot blonde. Thumbs up.

I just wish that these Netflix shows were less coy about being a part of the Marvel universe. I don't expect a Agent Coulson/Iron Man cameo or constant referencing and I understand these shows have to stand on their own feet. But seriously stop calling the Hulk "the big green dude" and perhaps have your characters be more ready to believe in mind-control when you live in a city that was mostly destroyed by aliens allied with a Norse god beaten back by another Norse god, a guy in a robot suit and a WW2 legend, all of whom chuff about in a fucking flying invisible aircraft carrier. Also, you know, the invincible robot that strapped a rocket onto a country and tried to destroy the world that happened a couple of months ago. Remember that? Something that might just stick in the mind. The Marvel universe started by jumping into the deep end, you can't swim back to safety now so don't even bother.

I've also been watching Doctor Who both new and old. This new season with Twelve has been one of the more consistent in many years and I've also been catching up with old Three, Five and Nine joints. Finally accepted that DW has the best theme song ever. Seven's is the best, pure eighties cheese.

Finished up Jessica Jones and I really enjoyed it. Like Sload Soap I kind of wish there was more off a cross over with some marvel characters, but like Dare Devil it's pretty passive talk about special people and the invasion of New York. That being said I was really happy to see a direct link to Dare Devil tossed in for the final episode :). Show also had a nice conclusion as well as a build up towards a second season.

Also started The Man In The High Castle. Two episodes in and I'm very interested to see where it goes. Things are a wee bit slow so far, but it feels like it's building up nicely.

the other night my wife and I watched "The Christmas Alien" episode of the 2000's Ninja Turtles series. I hadn't really watched that series, but I really liked the art style and was pleased to see that it was pretty violent/dark - even on this holiday episode. I think I'm gonna check out more of the series, although ideally, I'd like to finish re-watching the whole first series which I had started a couple years ago but got sidetracked. Anyway, this 2000's series seems way better than the current CGI series. I never watched any of the live action one... yet.

I've also had a couple of new old shows I've been re-watching via Roku. News Radio is on Crackle (free) and man, I loved that show back in the day. And Mike pointed out to me that Curb Your Enthusiasm is on Amazon Prime TV which is awesome since I never saw the full series - only got to see random episodes in syndication (TBS) and a single season that I had borrowed from the library on DVD. I'm like 6 or 7 episodes into the first season now.

Xould this be Syfy's return to form? One can but hope.

Seen part one, SyFy's got a good thing going on here. Belay that, by the end of part 3 they've actually made a show worse than V, and that is quite a feat.

You all should watch Making a Murderer on Netflix. Really compelling true-crime series in the vein of Serial. The narrative is good, but it calls into question some systemic injustices you might be interested in.

I just rewatched the first season of Fargo. Because of the gap the between the airing of the first and second season, I didn't realize how much the second season is referenced in the first. There's even a couple of characters that appear in both season, albeit at much different ages.

I saw it on there but wasn't interested. Although, admittedly, I didn't know what it was. Sounds kinda interesting now, I might check it out.
