What was the last movie you've seen?

Holy shit, I just realized that the 2 grave robbers from Return of the Living Dead II are Frank and Freddy from the first movie! They even share a line between both movies. "Watch your tongue, boy, if you like this job." - "like this job!?" Edit: and then later in the movie, "it's like we've been here before. You, me, them." Lol, that's awesome. My mind is blown, like when I realized that Flo from Problem Child is Annie in Problem Child 2.

Ack, I love behind the scenes stuff. It's half the reason I continue to buy DVDs and BDs.

New write-up of the week:

Parasite (1982)

Image

A Charles Band creature feature (in 3D!) that features Demi Moore. It has some nice monster effects and tries it's best, but ultimately anything that doesn't involve the monster just feels like a slog to get through, and sadly that's about 90% of the film.

Ah, man, Parasite. That movie is crap. I admit, I did track it down partly just to see what Demi Moore did at the start of her career, and it was...something. Killer paper-mache tadpoles with lamprey teeth? Sure, movie.

Darkman
It sits in a nice place between b-movie and super hero movie. Sometimes it has new ideas sometimes its as cheesy as TMNT cartoon.
I wonder if it was a big release at the time.

I dont know if I like those movies from 80s and 90s due to nostalgia or if they are actually good. There is a sequel, any one recommend?

The Witches of Eastwick

I really liked the build up of it, too much star power that you dont usually see today. I wish we could get more movies that have to do with artistic side of things like this than some "suit" looking at an excel sheet to figure out what elements are in the highest grossing movies and then try to build a story over that.

Last night, my wife and I watched Crawl (2019). It’s a horror/suspense film about a young woman who goes to find her father in southern Florida as a category 5 hurricane approaches the state. She finds him in the crawl space of their family home, which just happens to have been infiltrated by giant, ridiculously aggressive alligators!!!! The movie could have been titled, “Oh No! There’s Gators in my House!”, and while it’s pretty predictable and not particularly scary, it’s a lot of fun. It commits completely to its somewhat ridiculous premise and plays it perfectly straight, much to its benefit, and I recommend it to anyone looking for a fun movie to watch over pizza and beer.

Yeah, Crawl entertained me a lot too, even if I kept shaking my head over who would be dumb enough to have that kind of basement in Florida.

A Fish Called Wanda
Reminded me of comedy films from black&white era and Steve Martin for some reason. I dont know if this is a forgotten gem or an all time popular Hollywood classic.

Any body know whats the link between Jamie Lee Curtis and the fish sharing the same Wanda name?

New write-up of the week:

The Last Horror Film

Image

A fun little slasher filled with both corny and subtle inside humor that should appeal to slasher fans. Manages to be both pretty and gritty, and the fact that it was filmed at the Cannes Film Festival means that you can also spot a lot of fun movie references in the background. Probably one of the better put-together Troma-related films I've seen so far.

House of Games

I've seen this movie before, but not in a long time. It's about con men, so to talk about the story would really start to spoil things. I tend to like movies about con men, I don't know why. This movie tho, there's something just so melancholy and awkward about the lead character. In fact, the entire movie is sort of melancholy. You expect a twist or two in a movie involving con men, so it's hard to be surprised at the end of such movies, but this was the one con men movie that I was genuinely surprised with the ending.
