They mainly keep them in the areas where they still move and constantly refresh the stock. There's some lower income housing across the street from my local GS and they flip PS2 games fairly regular. Unfortunately they only keep the cases for new games at my local one, so I don't even bother to look through them very often.

Also, I don't know if it's just my local store - but they're having a B2G1 for powerup members this weekend. A good time to snag some cheap games!

Metroid Prime Trilogy was never released with a white case and slip cover, and GameStop doesn't make a habit of creating professionally designed slips to replace ones that weren't with the game.
mas wrote:I wrote a thread on this the other day. They are reprints that were new and was being sold as used to mark up the price. I also have a close friend who works at a gamestop and told me last week him and his boss got a ups package that had these games and they were new and sealed and they removed the packing and put a used tag on the games. It's becoming a dead issue now. Everyone is getting word and gamestop is dropping prices on these two games.
Metroid Trilogy was not reprinted, only had a Five Month Pressing which is why it is so pricey along with the short print run of US Xeonoblade. The Xeonoblade which looked new had an R sticker underneath the price label, a sign it passed thru the Refurbish Center.

Gamestop DOES NOT manufacture games, only cleans them up at the Refurbish Center.

THE UGLY

Gamestop does print just case cover slip labels, they did that for their Best Sellers Display Rack. This happened even when PS2 games were winding down. I saw five empty cases of PS2 San Andreas and PS2 Star Wars Battle Front with the custom covers, yet all the games were stripped months earlier to just yellow envelopes! :?

Yes those are Gamestop Printed Covers in empty cases.

sigh: Look, all I know is what my buddy has told me. These were reprints and new games that he himself removed the sealed shrink wrap and placed a used tag on. H ow is it not 1 metal case is in any gamestops I have call or been into in my 20 mile radius? If these were used then there would have been a few metal cases around of Metroid. And went to gamestop to see my friend. All 3 copies of xenoblade and 2 copies of Metroid cases and manuals are in perfect new condition and no creases in the case or manual. I really doubt that a close friend that I have known for years would lie to me. People are going to get these games weather they are reprints or not. If no one buys them then they will just mark them down and people will end up buying them.

I decided to thumb through the copies of Xenoblade Chronicles at my local GS today (there were no copies of Metroid Prime Trilogy) and each one had minor damage in one section or another, the manual/nintendo codes were there, but in differing orders in each. None had a refurbish mark, and while all were in great shape it was clear that they had been opened, handled and used to some extent. I find it much more believable that they took in used stock and possibly bought out another stores stock of these games than issuing a covert reprint.

As for the steel cases, some people keep them and trade/return the discs, some GS employees probably pull the cases and keep them for themselves. It could definitely account for a lot of copies without them. I'm not denying that they're not out there - but every copy of Metroid Prime Trilogy i've seen at a Gamestop has had a generic case or a steel case with it.

Good point on the Manuals and Flyers in various orders, if on the shelf a customer might have mixed them up though. On the other hand, who would put the Nintendo points on top since the manual would be the paper to thumb thru. Did you check the sticker at the back of the case? Hard to see, but the R Refurbish sticker is actually underneath the sticker the local Gamestop slaps on.

I visited a newer Gamestop location to verify myself, the store had recently received one of each. At this store, no Metal Case for Metroid Trilogy. The employee mentioned pulling the shrink wrap and placing the price labels himself over the existing Refurbish Sticker. Note that the Refurbish Sticker can only be placed by the Refurbish Service Center and it was UNDER THE SHRINKWRAP.

To further the mystery, the disc stashed away in the drawer envelope is absolute pristine. The case is a newer Nintendo stamped case with the Ecco holes. The Metroid Cover is of hard glossy stock, the manual looked new, but there is no bonus flyers inside. However, as I already mentioned, Gamestop has produced glossy covers before for the Best Used Seller empty game cases. The Nintendo brand case is puzzling, but these can be easily aquired from other refurbish games sent in. It would make sense to get the best of the lot and shrinkwrapping to protect the contents while shipping out.

Right Click the attachments for a larger view

Cover is thick glossy material, just like previous gamestop produced covers. Case is ecco Nintendo brand.

I didn't notice the "R" showing through any of the stickers. I didn't check to see if any of the stickers were double thick, it's possible that I just couldn't see it through the sticker.

MY EYES!
I think it is your eyes, pic looks fine to me.

Apologies, a hurried shot with my cell phone in case the store employee would have said no pictures. Normally I use a regular digital camera, but the cell is all I had on me. At least the Metroid Cover shot came out okay, the employee actually let me do that one. Should have taken a second shot of the two stickers in better light.
