As someone who comes from the age where cell phones seemed like something from the future, the fact that samsung Ao5 phone has 6.7 inch full color HD display, 128GB storage, 4GB RAM, broadband internet, with a processor that probably can play Wii-like games all for $100 splatters my brain outside of my skull.

Re: Random Thoughts Thread
I believe I was scammed a few days ago.
My credit card was charged some fraudulent transactions and the scammers, disguised as my Bank, called me to help me through a very long process. Unfortunately, I released some important information during this long phone call. Today, I called my Bank and they knew nothing about the previous call.
Yes, I should have trusted my initial reaction and I have been beating myself up pretty badly about it ever since.
I have been going on the offense ever since. I changed several of my passwords like to my bank and my email. My bank closed that credit card account and issued a new one to me. They will also monitor my accounts more closely regarding any unusual transactions. I also monitor my Bank Accounts rather closely. I put a freeze and a fraud alert on all three Credit Report companies. The scammers were basically trying to wire money through Western Union/Moneygram, so I called and and deleted any account associated with those two as well.
I think they just wanted the money, but I wanted to be certain. I will continue to monitor my Credit Report and Bank Accounts closer than normal for the next couple of weeks. I believe that is all I could do, so hopefully no more damage will come to me.
I'm just hoping that all the information is already out there for people to take if they wanted to. I just hope that the scammers just wanted the money and didn't want anything more or to do anything else to me.

Sorry that happened to you! Some future tips (not just for you; anyone reading this)
-Phone numbers can be spoofed to "seem local". Don't trust any unknown number, tbh.
-If it's a real call, they'll leave a message and you can verify by finding the main contact number and contact the bank/card company that way.
-No banking or credit card institution is going to call you to "verify [insert sensitive info here]". They have it already; the scammers don't.
-Don't click links in unsolicited text messages / emails.
-Just a general tip since a lot of ordering is going on for the holidays: no company needs "more payment" to complete a delivery. That's not how postage works. It's a scam.
-While I'm thinking about it, the USPS doesn't call or text you for "delivery information". That's a scam too. They already know where you live. If the post office needs something from you they'll put a note in your mailbox.
-Oh, another random scam: reputable businesses don't make you pay for a quote. I've seen this mostly with those fake roofing companies that try to take advantage of the elderly. Never pay for a bid. They will take your money and run.
-A recent one that got someone I know: They were selling their car and listed it on FB marketplace. They got contacted by someone pretending to be interested in the vehicle and asked them to purchase and send them a report on the car. The report was a scam and just a way to charge their credit card.

Marurun mentioned in another thread that LG and Samsung stopped making Bluray players. I checked 3 electronics stores locally and they were not even selling DVD players.
Its the LaserDisc's 2002 for Blurays as it seems!

Re: Random Thoughts Thread
What do you guys think about this?
I have a friend that is visiting from out of town. She flew in, so she's without her car. She's staying at her parent's house while here. We wanted to try and hang out while she's in town. Normally, I wouldn't mind picking her up and dropping her off, which is what I've done in past times she was here. But this time I wanted to go to a restaurant that is in the opposite direction from me of where her parents live. So I asked her if she could borrow one of her parent's car, and she said absolutely not. Like, she didn't even have to ask, she knows there's zero chance her parents would let her borrow a car. She wouldn't even ask.
That just seems crazy to me. What do you guys think? If you flew in and were staying at your parent's, would they let you take their car for a local trip?

Re: Random Thoughts Thread
I regularly use my mom's car when I visit my parents; the asking for it is so perfunctory as to just be maintaining politeness.

Re: Random Thoughts Thread
While I don't use my parents' vehicles, it's because I have my own, not because I don't have the option. If I needed to borrow a vehicle, there wouldn't be an issue that I can foresee.
Re: Random Thoughts Thread
That seems a bit odd to me, but if her family only has access to one car and someone needs it for work or another mandatory errand during that time, I could understand it being an issue.
