I decided to pop by a Taco Bell for some lunch today. Hadn’t been to one in a couple years and wanted to see the lay of the land. Was not unhappy with my Cantina Chicken burrito. It was surprisingly good firm Taco Bell fare. But they did have to tell me they were out of Baja Blast. Which is fine. It’s pretty gross and aimed primarily at people who prefer food coloring over flavor. No big loss there.
One thing that annoys the crap out of me these days is when I see some phrase, or lingo, or acronym, or whatever that I am unfamiliar with. So I'll do a search on google or duckduckgo and I will get two or three pages of results that just take me to links to places where people are using the term yet NOT ONE SINGLE RESULT THAT ACTUALLY EXPLAINS WHAT THE GODDAMN THING MEANS!!!
It pisses me off. If it's just a regular word or common phrase you can simply go to an online dictionary and get the meaning of it, but when you're dealing with insider terms that people just make up for use by a community or group of fans of something, it can be a royal pain in the ass trying to find out what the damn thing means. It's like you have to be part of a community to know what certain things mean and if you aren't, tough shit.
I find search engines increasingly more useless for finding info these days. People always used to say, "just google it", but google doesn't always give you answers. In fact Google these days seems less and less interested in providing information and more interested in trying to sell you stuff, but that's a rant for another day.
I've seen a lot of claims lately that Google is worse than ever, and I admit that I also find it less satisfying to use than ever, but I think the problem is just that the web in general is kinda garbage. It's too easy to make bad sites with junk information. Misinformation and pointless drivel are too easy to field, and good content isn't getting funded. Because while it's easy to host a web site, it's costly to develop GOOD content, and so more and more people and places are gating good information behind paywalls and ads to help cover the cost of paying people, and the sites that are easiest to access are the most likely to just have garbage. And there's only so much search engines can do to parse this mess. Google can't "fix" the internet, certainly. And while I'm typically unhappy with Google's moves, they aren't the ones necessarily making the internet suck. They're just trying to offer a product to help make sense of it. But the sad truth is garbage in, garbage out.
^ The thing that started to suck about Google search results is how many ads are now in most searches. Sometimes an entire first page is for commercial websites, which sucks when you're trying to find info on something. But thankfully they added the new "forum" filter, and I've been really liking that.
I just got an email from NetFlix and in big bold letters it says "You're going to save 40% on your new plan!" So I'm like, "Oh, yeah?" Then I read on. Turns out it's because the old plan "Basic" is going away. So I get to save 40% by switching to the ad-supported tier. Yay!

its not better but give it a shot: https://search.brave.com/
if you are looking for terms I find UrbanDictionary.com is great.
If you are looking for a specific piece of info, AI is the answer. Here are ones with free use:
Perplexity
Venice.ai
Phind.com
also Brave has AI answers built in the search for free which fairly does well.
This one doesn't work so well for Q&A but kind of removes the low quality from search results: https://andisearch.com/

I got invited to my work's fantasy football thing. I'm not a football fan. Isn't fantasy football just Dungeons and Dragons but lame?
Nah, it's more tactical in your unit selections, like Jagged Alliance meets Madden.
