Well I'm a verbose person in general, but I really do like to believe that my opinions aren't rooted in mere fanboyism. I grew up idolizing Sega, but that's not enough for me to make a claim about System X being better than System Y. The Dreamcast, for example, takes a back seat to the Playstation 2, Gamecube, and Xbox for me, even though I love it quite a bit. The library simply isn't there.

I'm definitely most familiar with Sega's library over any other company in general, but I like to base my opinions on what I own and what I play. It's all opinions, anyways, there is no real right or wrong answer. I try my best to back them up with first hand experience, though.

One last piece of evidence for SMS platformer supremacy, though. I'm sure most wouldn't count this, since it's not official, but since I actually play it on my master system quite often, it certainly bumps up the system's reputation for platformers in my mind:

Right there, right next to Sonic Chaos. :D

You deserve a medal or something. Awesome posts.

Where did you get your copy of Triple Trouble? Nes Dump I assume?

I really need to get one myself.

Its a fan made port.

You'll notice Sonic Drift 2 right next to it in the picture, same story there.

Triple Trouble is game gear only. Glitch converted the rom at my request, and a friend overseas built me the cart, manual, and box in exchange for a supergun I built him. One of my favorite oddities in my collection, purely because I enjoy the game so much.

How hard is this to do? How much would this cost?

Are you familiar with building homemade carts in general? It's the exact same practice. I've built Starfox 2 carts and english secret of mana carts. It really depends on how much time you have and how good you are with a soldering iron. In a nutshell, you take an existing game (both Sonic Triple Trouble and Sonic Drift 2 up there are Afterburner carts and boxes) and desolder the eeprom off of the PCB. Then, you order a compatible eeprom and flash it yourself with a kit (you can buy eeprom programmers online at relatively decent prices). Then comes the difficult part - you need to solder it back onto the cartridge, which can be frustrating if you're unfamiliar with soldering.

More complex games require more work. Starfox 2, for example, requires specific sorts of carts. Mine is built from a Yoshi's Island cart, although Stunt Race FX and Doom will work (although, with Doom, you can't save your game because the cartridge lacks SRAM).

The guy who made mine has a youtube channel:

He typically doesn't sell these things and, to my understanding, he gets kinda upset with random requests. He prefers trades for obscurities and rarities, and you sort of have to get into the communities he frequents and become a member who posts often before he'll entertain a request. Swell guy, though. Definitely a huge retro gamer at heart. He really does this stuff for himself primarily, and helps out those who have similar passions.

There's nothing extra to do to convert a GG ROM to a SMS ROM?

Wow Sonic, you are fantastic. I'm glad we share a similar opinion on the SMS as a whole. I really enjoyed that post, and your taste in SMS games. Wonder Boy 3 is among my favorite games of all time.

Oh no, that is a complex process. essentially, you need to locate the palette loading routines in a disassembly and point the values being loaded towards existing master system colors. The Game Gear is a portable master system, but its master palette is much larger than a normal master system. Games like triple trouble will load colors that don't exist on the master system and the system will crash. Glitch, with feedback from myself and a few others, came up with palette entries that exists on the master system that still kept the look of the game gear game.

Example:

On the left is his original palette for Meta Jungle Zone. On the right is the new one we agreed upon. This is the game gear version:

If you have no experience with rom hacking or disassemblies or Z80 programming, this will likely be beyond your skillset.

I'm fairly certain I've seen you post over at Sega-16 before, or perhaps Assembler. Your name definitely rings a bell. But thanks for the praise!
