You'd be surprised; a lot of the SNK fighters that were ported to SNES/SFC were done rather well considering the hardware limitations, IMO. Like I said before, I plan on doing a multi-port comparison with all of the available ports I have.

Might even try to get my hands on a Sega CD copy as well.

that's my plan too. HG101 says that the SCD version is really impressive. But sadly, it's not too cheap. Looks like $75-ish.

These games in particular:

Bubble Bobble - I have a choice between NES, Master System, Saturn, GB, GBC, GBA, Playstation, Game Gear and DS. I've heard bad things about the DS version in particular, but of the rest, what's best? I'd assume Saturn would be the best, but it's always worth asking!

Lemmings: Yes, it came out on everything, so my question is: Whic is the best non-computer port - console or handheld only?

Fantastic Dizzy - Another one with lots of options. I can play it on NES, Master System, Mega Drive and Game Gear. Which is best? Is the 16 bit version superior to the 8 bit ones, or vice versa?

Fatal Fury Special - I assume I'm right to think that it's Neo Geo (or NG emulation on VC or similar) or bust with this one?

TMNT Turtles In Time - Does this also include Hyperstone Heist, or not?

Zombies Ate My Neighbors - SNES or Mega Drive?

Parappa The Rapper - PS1 or PSP?

Wing Commander - PC is obviously best, but which is better out of 3DO and SNES? I'd assume the more powerful console is better, but again, I've been surprised before!
Hyperstone Heist is kind of a different game from Turtles in Times even though it borrows a lot from it. I'm assuming we won't be playing that. Not that I would mind. I love all the various TMNT games released over the years. I've gone through so many of them start to finish without even dying.

the thought is that Hyperstone is a port -- though radical port -- of Turtles In Time. It's def playable if you want. No different than if you played the GB Operation C instead of the NES Super C, y'know? Very different -- but a port no doubt.

Fair enough, though I think one could look at it as sort of a remake, but it's all semantics. I don't think I ever played Hyperstone Heist all the way through to the end come to think of it. Maybe I'll play both games for the Together Retro. I know Turtles in Time like the back of my hand, but Hyperstone Heist can still surprise me so that'll be fun.

that's fine and good, but I wouldn't fault anyone for playing Re-Shelled if they wanted to. The idea of TR is kind of inviting. Play the version of this game that you wanna play. In fact, that's why I love picking games with tons of ports. I like the idea of us all comparing notes on the various versions available, even if they're very different.

I can get behind that. It's actually an interesting example since in my experience each of these takes on Turtles in Time are vastly different. The arcade version, for example, is waaaaay harder than the SNES version, and the voice clips are pretty different too.

Yep, about $80 is usually where I see 'em at. Not really a priority when I can get a JP AES copy cheaper than that.

word. I've been collecting SCD, Sat and DC stuff lately so this is a good excuse to put FF Special on my X-Mas list haha.

Oh, isn't there a Fatal Fury Best Collection on Saturn?
