Ah, in that case, I'll one up it! Or in this case, three-up it:
ImageImage
Super Bomberman 5! The first couple were everywhere, but the third never made it to America, and 4 and 5 stayed in Japan, where they lie to this day. Unless you import them and stuff them into a Game Genie with the back broken off of it so it plays SFC games. Anywho, the series (or rather sub-series) got progressively better as time went on. Not *that* much was added to each game, but it was enough that if you played them blindly and without title screens, you could probably put them in order. Since each one built upon previous entries, 5 is basically the pinnacle before Hudson forgot they ever liked making fun single player modes in Bomberman games (Hero aside, but that's debatable, as while it was fun, it was a major departure) and animal riding.

List thus far since it's a new page:
1. Super Mario World
2. The Adventures of Batman and Robin

Yeah, this does sort of drive home the point that this console is ridiculously good, with an incredible game library. All that, and we've hardly delved into the impressive import library, which brings me to...

Seiken Densetsu III (sequel to The Secret of Mana, and you can find an excellent translation patch on romhacking.net).

I have always thought of the EWJ games as Genesis games, because the first game was developed for it(and the best version of it is on Sega CD). I wouldn't have picked the series for this list, based on that. However, seeing as we already have the first game on this list, might as well add the second one. It's every bit as good, though a bit harder I'd say. I always got a kick out of the puppy mini-game

As an animal lover and altruistic gamer, I obsessively had to save every one of them

The final level race with Psy-Crow was also awesome and is very similar in concept to the awesome last level of Battletoads in Battlemaniacs and isn't too far off from the chases in the more recent Rayman Origins game either. Observe:

Also, who can forget the crazy stage where you're navigating through an intestinal track as a blind cave salamander, while listening to Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata, followed by an out of the blue trivia game show with questions about the game. Aside from Conker's Bad Fur Day, few games have as many WTF moments as the EWJ series

156. Tales of Phantasia

Image

The first in the now very popular Tales series, Phantasia was released only in Japan originally for the Super Famicom, and it's one of the system's most impressive games and a true classic RPG not be missed.

The game has some of the best RPG music the SNES/SFC saw, including a fully voiced intro song "The dream will not die" that's catchy and enjoyable, not to mention a technical feat like no other on the system.

Image

Image
What separates Tales of Phantasia from other 16-bit RPGs is that the battle system isn't turn based, but real time. This makes battles more involves and fun than what you'd typically see in Final Fantasy, or even Chrono Trigger.

Although never released in the west (discounting the rather terrible GBA port) Tales of Phantasia has received a number of ports including the Japanese Playstation and PSP. There are fan translations of both the SFC and Playstation versions. As you might image, the PS1 version kicks the ever loving crap out of the SFC, but the fan translation for the SFC version is pretty legendary.

Image

Tales of Phantasia was such a big hit in japan that it eventually spawned a four part OVA anime retelling and an eventual prequel called Tales of Symphonia for Gamecube and PS2, which itself spawned a sequel on the Wii.

It might not be the best game on the system - and it might not be all that great by today's standards - but my borther and I played:

157. WWF Royal Rumble

to death when the SNES was in its prime.

I cannot stand idly by and let a retro-gaming community create a Top 200 SNES games list without seeing to it that WWF Royal Rumble is included...

Totally agree with you on that one, i played this to death with my friends. The graphics wasnt great, but punching and throwing people out of the ring doesnt get old at all.

Der Langrisser

I'm a big fan of Langrisser II on the Mega Drive, but what sets this particular version apart is the branching story paths. An awesome addition for any tactical RPG.

Now I don't know which version is best, but a lot of people seem to prefer the SNES version. I think it's worthy of a spot on the list

FIVE ELBOW DROPS IN A ROW! RAAAAAAGH!

(It's actually pretty fun stringing "combos" and linking a near-endless stream of Finishers when you get like 2 Macho Men with Yokozuna on your side... just don't do any infinite combos.)

And it might be too soon to nominate a second game, but Ranma ½: Hard Battle was pretty sweet back in the day. The one-button blocking made things too easy, but it looked great and was pretty fast-paced for being a 2-button fighter.
