That's where I started. It helps that it is one of the easier 'Vania's.

Man, you're in for a treat. I have fantasies of living in Dracula's castle because of this game.
It's one of those games that you pop it to try out and you are hooked until you've explored absolutely everything. Even now, after several playthroughs, I get absorbed too easily whenever dare to turn it on.
The soundtrack is pretty awesome too, of course... just a great experience all the way around.

I always wonder if SotN turns people off of the earlier games. The 1st NES Castlevania was my introduction, so I've more or less loved the series from the start. Symphony was like the 3rd or 4th game in the series that I witnessed.

Man, SotN is one of my top 10 favorite games. So good and addictive. Love the music, art, all the weapons and special moves, secret abilities and weapon combinations... <3

SotN is such a departure from the games before it though I consider the metroidvania games as part of a different series. The way I see it there are 3 Castlevania series branches:

Castlevania on MSX2, NES, GB, SNES, TG16 and Gen
Castlevania on PS1, GBA and DS
Castlevania on N64, PS2, 3DS, 360 and PS3

Each branch has something different to offer, so it's difficult to compare them to each other.

I accept and approve your classifications.
So basically, you have your Classic Series, your Metroidvanias, and your 3D Adventures.
I hope the middle class isn't retired.

I knew I was a diehard Castlevania fan when I bought Castlevania Chronicles for PS1... and enjoyed the hell out of it... well after I played SotN.
I think that was about the time I was introduced to covers done by the Minibosses, so I was probably swayed by remixed versions of classic tunes in the game as well.

Hehe Judgment's a 1-off, doesn't count :D

I'd also say there's 4 branches, N64/PS2 being different from 3DS/360/PS3 branch (the latter being more GoW oriented). But that's just me.

Weird.

I liked that one more than Dawn myself, but better than Circle of the Moon or Order of Ecclesia... dunno. Those were my three favorites of the handheld ones though.

Man I hope the GBA ones come to the Wii U VC store. I'm replaying Metroid Fusion and it just... still doesn't do much for me I guess. The one time I'd prefer Castlevania instead!

I've still yet to play any of the hand held ones outside of Adventure. I played one of the DS ones, the sequel of sorts to Bloodlines, whatever it's called. Didn't really care a whole lot for it. I'll still try out the other eventually, I'm just not really motivated to.
