Re: Games Beaten: 2010
I won Elite Beat Agents on the first difficulty setting a day or two ago. Now I've got to do the same on the next setting.

What did you think of the fight with Dracula in this game? Death was one hell of a boss fight, but Dracula really was as hard as he should be in this game IMO, and takes the title of hardest boss in the game. It took me many tries before I figured out his patterns in his multiple forms.SpaceBooger wrote:On 1-31-10 I beat "The Adventures of Batman and Robin" (SEGA GEN.)
On 2-28-10 I beat "Super Mario Galaxy" (Wii)
On 4-11-10 I Beat "Castlevania Adventure Rebirth" thanks to the handy dandy level select (WiiWare)
Also, Super Mario Galaxy is next on my purchase list for the Wii. How did you like that one?

Re: Games Beaten: 2010
Luckily I figured out to hit Drac with an ax, duck and take out the fireball on the first form the first time so the second form only took me a couple lives to figure out. The ax was clutch for both forms since it was an almost guaranteed head shot. I had more trouble with Death than Drac especially since level 5 was super hard.jfe2 wrote:What did you think of the fight with Dracula in this game? As for SMG, I recommend it. Just play through and have fun. I played the game for about 2-3 months straight trying to get all the stars (there are 120, but you only need like 70 to access the final level) before moving from galaxy to galaxy and then I got bored with 90-some stars. I stopped for about a year and then one Sunday I picked it up again and said "screw the 120 stars" and played the final level - an hour or so latter I felt like I accomplished something. Now I am slowly going back to get the other stars.

Ah, that is an interesting strategy! I actually would whip Dracula's head once as he teleported, crouch to hit the bottom fireball, and then quickly jumped up to hit him in the head again before he teleported away. As for his second form, I would get as close to his body as possible and jump up to whip every time he landed after jumping. That seemed to be the best way to avoid his projectiles. I saved all of my hearts to use the cross on his final form, as it does insane damage when you throw it at his eyes and manage to get it far enough to hit both of them.SpaceBooger wrote:Luckily I figured out to hit Drac with an ax, duck and take out the fireball on the first form the first time so the second form only took me a couple lives to figure out. Shoot 1UP- 360 *new* - Excellent, innovate little shmup that everyone should play (and for only $1)!
Dragon Age Origins: Awakening -PS3 *new* - A full fledged expansion that easily has 20+ hours of play. More of the same, with a somewhat more original story than the one in main game. I found it to be a good deal easier, too. This is a great series and one of the more addicting RPGs I've played - I can't wait to see what they have in store for the future!

I'll have to try Shoot 1UP, as it looks really interesting. If I'm not mistaken, Mommy's Best Games is creating Grapple Buggy for XBLA. These guys are making tons of innovative stuff that is influenced by retro gaming lately!dsheinem wrote:Raiden IV 360

As far as Awakening goes, I'm about 4 hours in at this point, and I'm really enjoying myself. It does seem a bit easier than DAO, but the world that Bioware has created is just a joy to experience. I've heard some people complain that this game feels out of place in the storyline of DAO, but it seems to flow well to me. What do you think about the story?
Re: Games Beaten: 2010
I didn't have any problems with it not fitting what was established in DAO - I'm not sure why people think that. It wasn't quite as complex, but it was much darker overall, which I liked. I also thought it was a little more original than the whole "oh no there's a blight and we need to form an alliance of disparate peoples" shtick that is found in many RPGs...I also think I like some of the new characters (both party members and NPCs) more than many of those in DAO.jfe2 wrote: I'll have to try Shoot 1UP, as it looks really interesting. Re: Games Beaten: 2010
Finished Final Fantasy 13, disappointed with it overall. However, it has its strong points. I love the combat system(for the most part). Visually, it's one of the prettiest games this gen(especially the Gran Pulse area)and the soundtrack is excellent. Some great characters in Sazh and Fang as well. The rest of the cast is forgettable
Unfortunately, the story never really comes together in a compelling way. And the game gives you practically no freedom at all. It's not the linearity that is the problem, it's how the game doesn't let you level up your characters beyond a certain point until it wants you too, or the fact that you NEVER get money in this game, forcing you to have to sell things to get cash. And the game has ZERO sidequests. You hunt optional marks...that's it. You can't even return to previous areas.
FF13's post game is essentially killing Adamantoises over and over again for experience points and for items to sell so you can upgrade your equipment. Thus, becoming strong enough to kill all the optional marks because you'll soon find that beating some marks is more about brute force or cheap tactics(like the death spell)than it is strategy
Also, as good as the combat system is, the rank system is flawed. I'm glad it's there at all, but it could have been done better. It over-emphasizes pre-emptive strikes sometimes and also penalizes you for making your characters stronger. There are other minor issues too, like the complete joke that is enemy weaknesses in this game. Using a fire spell on a enemy weak to fire yields surprisingly pathetic results compared to other Final Fantasy games.
