Avengers talk. I still think using spoilers is polite as long as it’s in theaters:

Am I heartless? I did not find this devastating. Spider-Man will obviously be back to life in the sequel, along with all the other people who were turned into dust at the end. It’s hard to feel sad when that’s so obvious. I guess if you are a big fan of Gamora, Vision or Loki then you might be more upset because they might actually stay dead. I like Loki well enough but the other two are boring as sliced bread and I just don’t really care about any of these characters enough to be upset about one of them dying. There are just too many characters in this series to feel that emotionally connected to any of them.

I agree the deaths were so fast and bland that there is no way any of those characters are gone permanently. If everyone had lingered for a bit and had a scene like Spiderman then maybe perma-death would have had a slim chance of being believable but half the cast mostly the newer heroes who only have 1 movie under their belts with sequels most likely in the works it's pretty obvious that most if not all of the deaths are going to be reversed.

Honestly I think the only deaths that are probably guaranteed permanent are Loki and Heimdall. Everyone else has deaths pretty much directly connected with Infinity stones so there is a good chance they will be back.

I didn't either, and I imagine anyone else that's read the comic it's based on wasn't, given that it happened in that too. Also people vaguely aware of Marvel's release schedule  All they did was end it on a cliffhanger. Someone is going to get the gauntlet and reverse it, just like in the comic. Only real question is who. Originally it was Adam Warlock, and while we have (presumably) seen a version of him in the MCU, it was a credits scene in Guardians 2 and that's it.
In the comic, he was in the soul stone before escaping and rallying the troops to go fight Thanos. Seemingly in the MCU, Gamora is now trapped in the soul stone, so maybe she'll wind up assuming some of that role. It'd make sense given Nebula's role in the comic and their arc in the movies.

I'd agree more with the sentiment that Avengers 4 may see some lasting deaths or other changes in roster to allow for expiring contracts and the like, but almost none of the ones we saw in this one will necessarily stick. The primary roster for the team/movies will likely end up shifting to keep it smaller.

I watched The Adventures of Tin Tin with my family last night. It was great. Way, way better than I thought it would be. It is also pretty much Indiana Jones for kids, and my children absolutely loved it. (I mean...It is directed by Steven Spielberg; scored by John Williams; and written by Steven Moffatt and Edgar Wright. Also, it was produced by Peter Jackson; so, the chances of it not being at least good we’re pretty low.)

The ending is a bit anti-climatic, but only because it pales in comparison to some of the earlier action scenes...which are probably the best in any Steven Spielberg film since The Last Crusade or Jurassic Park. (The movie is pretty much wall-to-wall action and comedy, which is fine with me.) It also really could have used at least one female character, even if doing so would mean breaking from the source material a bit more. Nonetheless, I still loved it; I highly recommend it; and since it is currently streaming on Netflix, you can watch it anytime!

Ooh awesome! Thanks for the recommendation, I've had my eye on this one for awhile. I do a movie night with the kids every Friday, so we've been watching a mix of movies I've seen and loved (Harry Potter, A Princess Bride, etc.) and new movies like Peter Rabbit (avoid) and Coco (see it!).

Awesome! Please let me know what you think of it after you’ve seen it. I was really shocked by the quality of the many, many action scenes.

Be warned, however, there are guns in the movie. So, it may not be appropriate for all children.

Sweeney Todd in Concert. Loved it. Patti LuPone was incredible, though the upscaled HD widescreen picture looked blurry in places. Apparently they just upscaled the original standard definition source and cropped it from it's original 4:3 to 16:9. Still great, though.

And prior to that, I found a short musical called Grind. Clocking in at around 36 minutes and featuring 5 musical numbers, this short film explores the world of using Grindr (though the app is never named aloud) from the viewpoint of a young model and his roommate (played by Anthony Rapp).

I never read the comic, but I don’t fee like you need to have any background history to know that the series isn’t going to end with 50% of the universe’s population dead  I can imagine it being devastating for kids who don’t understand that this is a two parter though. Lots of kids are marvel fans and I can’t imsgine they enjoyed watching Spider-Man turn into dust.

Watched it and thought it was great! 1.) The 'uncanny valley' wasn't there like it was for Polar Express, which I was pleased with 2.) The guns everywhere did bother me more than I would've thought and the captain's arc with being a drunkard I was on the fence about.

Have you (anyone can chime in here) watched The Fantastic Mr. Fox? I've had it for awhile, but haven't watched it yet and I can't tell if there is anything to be wary of without watching it.

Fantastic Mr. Fox is charming. It’s stop-motion animation with a little help from computers and a lot of help from Star power.

The dialogue is snappy. The protagonist is flawed in believable ways.

I don’t have any offspring of my own, but I think this movie should be alright for kids. The only points to be wary of (that I can recall) are as follows:
-The villains use guns.
-The titular Fox gets his tail shot off.
-The Fox kills chickens to eat and to feed his family (but also for the thrill of stealing from farmers).
-The Fox seems to be going through a midlife crisis.
-It is implied that Mrs. Fox finds danger sexy; that leads to fox kits who Mrs. Fox ironically wants to protect from the exact danger that produced her kits. This one will probably go over your children’s heads.
-Mr. Fox seems to disregard his own wimpy son for a more masculine boy. This may imply that his son is gay. This one will certainly go over your children’s heads.

On the positive side, there is exactly zero foul language in The Fantastic Mr. Fox. The scriptwriters found a strangely charming workaround to swearing. The characters literally say the word, “cuss” instead of swearing at each other. “Did you say ‘Cus me?’ Well cuss you too!” It made me laugh.

I guess that The Fantastic Mr. Fox is the kind of move that kids can grow up with. It’ll mean one thing to them when they’re young. As they grow up, some of the more nuanced implications will grow apparent upon rewatching the film with older eyes.
