remember those old CD-ROM's that were full of like 100 DOS games and sharewares? I just found an awesome one for $4 at a thrift shop. It's called The Game Room by C&C Software. It has 200 games on it including multiple Commander Keen titles, Duke Nukem 1 & 2, Jill of the Jungle, Lost Vikings, Mario Bros. VGA, Spear Of Destiny, and Wolfenstein 3D.

I'd spend hours combing through those things. As a kid it made me feel like console gaming was so limited by comparison.

Yeah I love those discs. Shareware was always such a cool concept I miss the days of physical demos

I know. Even going back just less than a decade ago I remember magazines coming w/ demo discs all the time.

Neat posting those older game shareware titles, aah Apogee games! I ended up buying a few of the full versions including
Wolfenstein 3d,
Doom,
Rise Triad,
Quake and a very good SHMUP you might want to look into. A very good VGA game with great explosions along the lines of the Raiden series
Raptor: Call of the Shadows - http://www.hardcoregaming101.net/iosshooters/iosshooters010.htm
Also
Line Wars 2, which was inspired by the original Elite series.

=====================================================
The British magazines were especially good. I would buy the imports at specialty news stands back in the day.
Zap64 - Commodore 64 Cassette Tape game demos
PC Zone and
PC Format - Earlier Issues had floppy disk game demos
Retrogamer - PC CD Disc game demos
When
PCGamer came out with a disc demo taped to the front, I collected every issue. Then of course the magazines with console demos, many have exclusives of beta games never released as well as DLCs that can be "downloaded" right from the disc. A great way to find the DLC downloads for older consoles that are no longer available online.

Raptor: Call of the Shadows has also been released on GOG, if you guys want to pick it up without having to track down physical media.

Probably a good route due to the original on DOS floppy disks! This game just screams with explosions. Fortunately installed DOS games are easily transferred to new drives (from my DOS IDE drive), I have it running on my newer PC Laptop (no floppy) thru DOS Box nowadays.

Another game I fondly remember from those disks is Sky Roads.

I think it's available as freeware now.
This could be its own topic if it isn't one already.
