How is your Dreamcast gaming going on?
Re: How is your Dreamcast gaming going on?
They got smoked because the ps1 was aleady established and sega made a 1.5 generation system with the next generation a year away. I would have held out and uped the tech for the next gen. I'm disregarding all the other elements like piracy, dvd, 3rd party because that is irelevant to me. No one is going to buy a system a tad bit better when the next big thing is right around the corner.

For anyone interested, Pat The NES Punk (yeah, if you don't like him, whatever) just put that bootlegger we were talking about a few pages back on blast:
Re: How is your Dreamcast gaming going on?
I've only watched a video or 2 of his. He seems like the Colin Cowherd of video games lol. I might watch this one. The guy is listing it as a "repro" so not sure of the big deal. Does he bitch about cart repros also?
Re: How is your Dreamcast gaming going on?
Pat's main beef with this stuff (and I agree) is that reproductions should be CLEARLY labeled as such on the item itself so that it can't be passed off as the real thing, whether intentionally or unintentionally.
For a good example of how to do this stuff, check out those German PCE/TurboCD repros that Johnny on HappyConsoleGamer has done videos about.

Re: How is your Dreamcast gaming going on?
That German repro guy has gone back to his old tricks making repros that look like the real thing. The discs inside are marked, but the packaging is deceptive. So he needs to be on notice, again.

You can switch views on the "fly" in the different vehicles. In the flying games find the missiles and fuel will help. Keep with it, each new level opens a complete different form of game play. The driving levels are a kick especially when you discover the climb the wall ramps. Wait until you get to the level on deploying your soldiers Command & Conquer Style.Tanooki wrote:Not sure I like Toy Commander though...can't even get within 90sec of matching the best time on any course under that robot guy in the opening space at all. Some stuff is just tricky to find, and a stage with bombers I couldn't see them half the time which is of no help. If I end up having to beat the best time to clear the area I'm quitting as I can't even get close and I hate being rushed.

What happened to awesome system startup sounds? I forget how amazing the Dreamcast's was haha. Last good one.
Re: How is your Dreamcast gaming going on?
Pat is a special type, and I was from that area out there. He's the king of the attention seekers, think of that online meme of the hot chick in the bikini doing the hand stand that says 'look at me I'm an attention whore' and that gets it. It's not an online thing though, it's in daily life too. Must be 5-6 years back, couple friends of mine out in San Diego ran into him at Kobey's Flea Market in downtown. He saw they had games, but what got him was a found TG16 system in the box. He followed them creepily for a little like a stalker watching (they noticed and wondered if they'd have to beat him for theft attempt) and eventually ran up on them like a giggly japanese school girl and was all over their stuff asking about what they found, what they paid, digging his hands into it like he had the right. Then (keep the japanese girl thing in mind) wouldn't beat it until they'd pose with their bounties for a posed happy picture. That's not normal behavior. And back then his buddy on that show dumped on him twice to me at their Luna Games shop in the downtown location too for being nuts. Guess he warmed up to it...
Ever see his bad acting on Pawn Stars he admittedly went on just to flash off his gold/gray NWC carts? More attention seeking, and only used it to deny them for free advertising to gin up better collector hype (can't blame him one bit, smart move.)
Despite being bat shit nuts, he knows his stuff and researches pretty well, but he does get kind of hypocritical and odd on some topics. If he put that 'repro' maker on blast, good for him.
-- Anyway, got my 'repros' of Capcom Fighting Collection, Rez, and Propeller Arena today. The pictures do it pretty good justice. The art is only as good as his materials, and it's good, but you can still see a fine dotty fuzz/haze? around the fringes of some of the thinner color areas but fine otherwise. The discs really are inked on there, it's no sticker. He must have some machine that takes the original disc art, then locks the CD down into a tray. From there it looks like it seals it along an inner sharp line toward the inner opening of the disc, and then like a 1/8" around the edge and just stamps it on. It looks excellent and definitely appears to not be some lame sticker. I'll probably get to them tonight but I got into Skies last night on accident for an hour as I said so I still want to look at Gundam.

Re: How is your Dreamcast gaming going on?
By the way I saw some pictures and varying opinion online, but how hard is it really exactly to swap out the stupid(on sega for doing it) mounted CR2032 in there? Mine is most definitely dead.
I read you can easily shred a ribbon cable, and then the power converter to the left has some long pins that can be tough and damage can happen trying to raise it to get to the board with the battery on it.
I wonder is it really worth it, or just hit the button and let all the saves think it is 1998 or whenever it defaults?
