My guess would be that, since your Panasonic player is a portable unit, it's likely incorporating engineering designed to prevent it from skipping - a large buffer, maybe more forgiving error correction - which may also serve to make it better able to handle discs in poor condition.
The potential for the lasers on your more used drives to simply be dirtier or something could also contribute.

This engineering to handle skipping should be implemented in all drives since it can only result in better play. Seriously, I tried another disc that had splotches on it, kind of like LaserDisc rot -if you know those-it still played just fine. I am starting to believe in the Panasonic brand.

Never doubt Panasonic. Matsushita (the parent company of Panasonic and National brands) has never had the gloss that Sony has, but they have much better reliability. They're stalwart brands, and I will never turn up my nose at them.

Always liked Panasonic tvs, especially a plasma I had that looked great and lasted about 12 years.

Hmmm...I am starting to change my mindset. Always felt Panasonic is the small player. Always believed in Sony as the super brand. I hope Panasonic still hold their quality standard because most has shifted on created the planned obsolescence products, some let random plants build products and let them slap the brand name on it.

got new iphone 12 with OLED screen. I don't see how is this technology is superior to LCD. It has a yellow hue and the "deep blacks" are a joke, if you don't pay attention to it to make side by side comparison you can't see it. This was not my experience when I went to the TV showroom and the LG OLED tv had blacks that looked as black as liquid tar and other LCD tvs looked "grey" in comparison. Maybe Apple ships bad OLEDs.

Maybe you have the nighttime mode on where it color shifts. Maybe you got a bad unit. Reviews of Apple phones typically give them excellent marks for their screens.

I wish I had a theme song that bongo sounds get added to when my dog is around.

(Guess what game I just played lol)

That's so funny because I was just tinkering around with a song were bongos get added halfway through and I was totally thinking of SMW.
