I think the most time I’ve spent in the fighting game, not including Smash, was Marvel vs Capcom 2 on the Dreamcast. I put in a decent amount of time unlocking the characters waiting for your favorite characters to come out of nowhere.

They took art that away on the 360 release by having all characters unlocked from the beginning. Lame…

Glad I am not the only one, I felt I was the odd one out

EDIT: This reminds me, back in the day I remember I saw a Street Fighter arcade that had off colours , maybe it was Turbo or Hyper, but Ryu can do a hadoken that will release fire balls wall from top to bottom of the screen basically you can't escape the hit. What was this? bootlegged arcade?

Looking to do another of my “Interesting” posts on the Gameboy Micro. Before I do that, I’d like to get a new battery (like I did with the PSP Go). Are there any decent third-party batteries still around? The console ties elf didn’t sell very so I don’t know if there’s a market for it.

Finally made it to one of my local game stores today, which I hadn't visited since before the pandemic. Felt great to be back and browse around. Ended up finding a couple games I was looking for, and even picked up something for my partner. I was a bit disappointed in the Sega Genesis selection but overall, it was a good experience. Hopefully I can start checking it out a bit more frequently.

I hadn't even heard of that one. The only Retron products I have are the Retron 5 and the SMS adapter, but I bought the former mostly to play imports. I only tested the GB slot once, but I'm pretty sure it kept the original screen ratio. So I have no idea why they'd go in a different direction on that front.
MJR reviewed it. In short. Don't waste your money.

Not sure how I feel about it, I've played Ninja Gaiden and Ninja Gaiden 2, but not the Sigma versions and they are the ones in the collection. Are they any good? Didn't Itagaki NOT work on those. NG 3 I heard is a complete dumpster fire.
NJ3 sucks but Razors Edge is pretty solid. Sigma versions play fine but removed gore. Razors Edge added a bunch of stuff to fix NG3 gameplay and did a pretty good job IMO. Source code is lost on the OG Ninja Gaiden games so they had to use Sigma.

Ahh I had no idea they removed gore form the SIgma releases. It may have been an odd move but a few weeks prior to the release of the collection, I bought the digital version of NG Black and II on Xbox One. The price worked out to being $5 short for the recently released collection but the flip side to my purchase is that I know from experience how those two games run in general and I can play them on the 360 and the One (and Series of course). Those older versions are what I consider "mature" versions: they've been out a long time and any issues with them are known. I had bad experience with Sigma II on the Vita so I assumed that the new collection would have problems and didn't want to roll the dice. Seems silly but I swear it made sense in my head at the time.

It seems that my purchase of Blood: One Unit Whole does not include the expansion pack Plasma Pak which is including in the Blood: Fresh Supply version. I feel cheated. I don't think its worth to buy the game twice for the 1 expansion pack.

I also find training mode to be more frustrating than not because they don't teach you the correct timing for doing moves/combos. I might enter in the correct inputs but then I don't perform the move. I remember getting really frustrated by this in Street Fighter IV where they give you certain combos and it would take me about 15 minutes before I can even get a simple three-button combo performed correctly. And then even though I can perform it correctly ONCE, it's not very helpful in a real match!

Fighting game people all seem to say stuff like "oh, it's really easy to get good at fighting games, you just need to spend about 48 hours or so in training mode" as if that's a fun thing to do. I don't have the dedication to do that kind of thing, I'll never be a serious fighting game player. I'll just play things like Vampire Savior or Fighting Vipers on my Saturn and have fun messing around.
Fighting games have a really high skill ceiling for sure, anyone can jump in, learn the moves and some basic combos and have some fun, but to get really great you need to dedicate obscene amounts of time. It is not enough to just learn your character(s), you need to learn every character on the roster so you understand all the match ups, as well as frame data so you know what can and cant be punished.

I was extremely good at capcom vs snk 2 and tekken tag, but I also worked at funcoland at the time and played with my friends 8 hours a day 5 days a week.

When I see people completing levels like this always makes me feel stupid. I always thought you had to go through all the obstacles and kill every enemy to truly complete the level. Reminds me of RE players that just run past zombies and I would think "You can do that?" For me, every zombie is a tactical battle. I mean the developers gave you a weapon and put the zombie there to kill it, its part of what makes the game a game. Maybe its like watching a movie on 3x speed?!
