Specialist. I finished my service as an E-5 and got the frack out. Too many deployments to southwest Asia.

Know what you mean family separation is rough. Being a Navy man, not familiar with that insignia and Wikied it. From what I read there, it is a rank of E4 but with more clout due to your experience. I don't think the Navy has that program, usually one gets moved down a paygrade if out too long. How does the Specialist rank work as far as assignments, seniority to the regular rank structure and moving up the ladder later?

And Army deployments are 12 months, right? I wouldn't want that either.

An E4 isn't generally in charge of any soldiers below him or her. You can sometimes delegate tasks to Privates below you...but for the most part, you're a glorified PFC, imo. Make no mistake though, E4 mafia always sticks together! 8) You're sort caught between trying to prove yourself as a future NCO candidate, or if you're en route to your ETS date, getting out of as many details as humanly possible. Corporals share the same pay grade, but are considered Junior NCOs. I've only ever seen a handful of Corporals during my service. It's an odd rank.

Renfest this past weekend. My niece is on my shoulders and my nephew is on a friend of ours. You can see a Hobie behind me on the right side of the pic.

Heh, I had a mouthful of pretzel and I was looking up at something. Kind of a goofy look on my face because of that.
