Prices are set by corporate for every store. $5 games in my town are $5 games in yours. They may not be there at the moment, but you can have them ordered in.Also, maybe I just have bad luck and live in a crappy town, but My gamestop doesnt have 5 dollar games at least none that aren't sports or like bottom of the barrel crap games, and even then, some of those are like 8 bucks here.
After a game is released, typically it's price continues to go down. If you wait a year or two to trade them in (or are trading in games they have an overabundance of) they're definitely going to be worth less. Considering they take in such a large amount of games, they definitely have to consider what's going to happen at the end of the current generations life where everything they have money wrapped up in is pretty much $15 or less and they're offering buy one get one on those games. If they've got more than $5 in each of those games, then they're taking a massive hit to clear out all of that inventory.I don't expect gamestop to barter, but it makes no sense when I can take 10 games in there, and not even be able to afford to trade those for ONE new game.
The benefit to Gamestop is, it doesn't matter how many copies of a title they have, they're going to take it. They have the money to buy it today and they'll give it to you.
Also, you may have to hit up sales or wait for them to clear some things out, but you can get better deals there than almost anywhere else. I'd rather take the time to sell my things myself and get accessories for a tenth of what they sell for online. Than have them pay everyone whatever they feel they're entitled to for their used game and have them out of business in the year.
That's business. If they offered you $2-3 for them, that means they have way too many copies. They probably put that game on the shelf for $9.99 or less and will be lucky if they actually sell it for any profit before they discontinue support for the system and throw all of them in the trash.and been offered 2 and 3 dollars for them. Thats highway robbery.
