That said, it is your family and what the hell do I know about the circumstances? So, please take my 2 cents as nothing more than 2 cents. I just wanted to add an outside perspective that may not be considered with lots of feelings involved. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong, and I apologize.
No worries man. It's his life to live after all.

But the way my wife found about the cancer being back was the worst way possible. She's worried that it must be pretty bad if he's hiding it. I've told her she needs to call her Father and let him know that she knows, but I haven't pestered or pressed her on it. She's a grown woman and can make her own decisions.

Forlorn, Dude. You obviously have internet access, so you have no excuse for not attending school functions. Go to your school's homepage, and click on the calendar of events. While in college your apartment should only be used for sleeping/passing out, eating, and studying. And you say you aren't familiar with the campus?

Well, park somewhere and spend a day getting familiar with it as it sounds you don't have anything better to do. Learn where which dorms are located where. Know where student health is. Check out the library and fitness center. See which cafeterias or food courts have the best food. Grab some flyers and see what local bands will be playing soon, and where. And on most campuses there is always an outdoor game being played. Ask "ya got room for one more?", and MEET some people. And another easy way to meet people it to simply ask them what their major is. You might share some of the same classes.

I get where you are coming from, I would feel the same as you about it. Especially if I had to watch my wife suffer more because of the way it all happened.

Go hang out in the halls. There's plenty of people on that campus that share your interests, and find out where they live and hang out with them. Get involved. Most campuses have a fall involvement expo with a clever name -- Fall Fest, Festifall, etc. There'll be student organizations and clubs for a variety of interests. Sports clubs, anime clubs, video game clubs, students for sustainability, local fish populations, you name it. Find something that catches your interest, sign up for email notifications, and go to a few meetings and introduce yourself!

Thanks Samson. I'm pretty tough, but seeing my girl cry is rough.

Smile: Great weather outside today, and looking forward to having dinner (Grilled broccoli with caper/chile glazed salmon) on the patio. I'll also be leading a big meeting at the museum today. Excited about it as we're looking to raise around 8k in one night.

More smiles: My friend Pringles will be arriving back to US soil tomorrow. He's been in Abu Dhabi for over a month and can't wait to once again eat bacon (no pork in Abu Dhabi). Going to send him a proper homecoming full of friends, activities, cocktails, and the best damned BLT's you could sink your teeth into.

Truer words were never spoken. I recently had to witness my wife in agonizing pain when she broke her ankle (in 3 places!) and dislocated it. Emotionally rough day/week.

Your wife is lucky to have such a caring guy looking after her, hope everything turns out for the best!

Sorry to hear about your Father in-law Luke cancer is a hell of a thing. Hopefully he can come out and talk with the family about it, but I can't even imagine how hard it must be to have cancer come back.

:): Have had 1 free redbox code every weekend for the last 5-6 weeks. Thinking about picking up Need For Speed to night since I've seen everything else.

:D Several businesses in my neighborhood were featured in the New York Times yesterday! I am certain they appreciate the publicity.

Eh? Sectarianism isn't a byproduct of the Union. It's more to do with football hooliganism and Irish immigration than anything else.

Fipping heck. Dude, you live in Scotland not Iran. We've had two televised debates and almost constant coverage across all major news networks. If Russia and ISIS weren't trying to start WW3, the referendum would get top billing. I would have thought living in China might have taught you what real state controlled media looks like.

Sounds a lot like a democracy to me!
