It's the beginning of the year and you're a freshman. I guarantee there's stuff going on aimed at new students. I'm sure there's an activities office and or boards up all over campus with flyers and stuff.

The hard part is I live off campus, by quite a ways. I know some people are just getting up and walking to something on campus from their dorms, but I'm not nearly close enough to walk. And the bus route doesn't come by my place.

If you didn't take a vehicle with you and you're living off campus, you're going to be riding the bus or whatever anyway. You should be learning the stops and schedules before classes start or otherwise getting used to the travel method you're going to use to get there.

Stop making excuses man. :|

I have a vehicle, obviously.

But the way everything is written assumes you already know the campus. IE, I would not have found the Church I went to today without getting an exact address, because all the information said was the Methodist Church... but there are 3. A thing on Monday said to go to to the "Academic Plaza"... which has no signs or anything to show you how to get there, and is simply the lawn in front of the academic building, of which I had no way to know.

Why aren't you in the dorms?

I don't have to be, and my rent will be cheaper than paying to live in the dorm.

You definitely lose out on a great experience though. Hope the rent was pretty significantly cheaper, honestly. I went to school in the same city I grew up in and I still lived in the dorms my first year (and my second too, but I was an RA then so I lived there for free that year). Met my best friend, he was my roommate. Fifteen years later we're still inseparable.

Eh, some folks like dorms, some don't. I personally couldn't wait to get out after my first year.

Good thing about having your own place is you've got a spot to throw parties.

Dr0ms kick ass. Don't have to worry about cooking, you can get up 5 minutes before class and walk there in your sweatpants, you gots the ladieeezzzzzz right down the hallway.
