I know it's not a super hero movie, so maybe not a popular thing here, but I went and saw Blade Runner 2049 today. I went in cautiously, because the original Blade Runner is one of my top three favorite films of all time. After it was over, I walked away fairly entertained. If you're a fan of the first movie, there's a lot to like about the second. Although there's some stuff not to like as well. I'll just leave it at that then, and say it was a 7/10 experience for me.

You seem like a tough one to crack so a 7/10 sounds really good coming from you. I would say the first is my #1 favorite movie, so I'm certainly skeptical as well. But yeah I've heard from enough trusted sources and friends that I should dig it, though I'm bummed to hear one friend say the Hans Zimmer soundtrack is bad... and totally expected. He said they sprinkle in some of the original tunes or some remixes, but yeah. I can't wait for the Hans Zimmer era to end, I have no idea why they would pick him for this. I watched Interstellar earlier this year and it was amazing, his music is serviceable and good in film but nothing I'd ever care to listen to on its own, nor do any of his soundtracks sound different from one to another. I better stop there. /rant

Guess the positive is that the Vangelis score will just continue to keep the first movie all the more special.

Also laughed at your first jab there.

It lacks the subtlety and mysteriousness of Vangelis' 1982 masterpiece OST, that's for sure.

I admit it takes gusto to make a sequel to a 35 year old film. In that regard 2049 turned out well enough. I'd like to edit ~45 minutes out of it for better pacing though. Unless that is you really enjoy staring at Ryan Gosling's emotionless face for long periods of time.

The New Blade Runner

Good but I prefer the original

It's not doing so well with ticket sales...

Maybe that's a good thing, I don't need Hollywood milking Blade Runner further...

I'm excited to see this guys take on Dune though, I think he's set to do that next year.

Had myself a little double feature yesterday morning:

I rewatched Curse of Chucky to get ready for the sequel.

I liked Curse just as much as I did when I first saw it back in 2013 and I liked Cult of Chucky just as much.

And last night:

So glad I bought this on Blu-Ray.

I ended up seeing the new Blade Runner last night, and I saw the original for the first time a week ago. I ended up enjoying the new movie better; I felt like it had a proper plot, while the original movie was a bunch of plot ideas welded together without much coherence. The first movie did have a bit more style compared to the new one, though. And that's basically all I can say about the new one without spoilers.

Which cut? Original, Director's, or Final?

Final cut I believe. It had a five second unicorn dream sequence in it and the ending was them getting on the elevator after he found the origami unicorn.

Final Cut is the best cut.

I still haven't seen the narrated version. The curiosity always boils up, but I know it's really bad and Harrison completely hated doing it. I'm still shocked he came back for this new one.
