watched Guardians 2 tonight. My wife didn't get to see it w/ me in the theater. It was just as good the second time. Maybe even better. Man, I just really love the Guardians movies. They are just such a total joy.

I'm one of the folks who hated Speed Racer. I appreciate that it went for a different approach which echoed it's source material, but overall I did not enjoy it.

Speed Racer was a tonal disaster. Cutting from fight scenes and flesh eating pirahnas to jokes I'd expect from a bad straight to video kids movie from the 90s. I wanted to like it.

Night Of The Creeps

This is somewhat underrated horror film. This film has good cast of funny and likeable characters, the effects are decent and it's the right kind of cheese. What prevent's it being great is pacing issues and some scenes just fall but it's still a good flick.

I also finally saw the Blob today and i don't think i need to reiterate what was said about it. Definitely a underrated classic.

I just watched this for the first time the other day...and while it was fine, I didn't think it was anywhere near as good as the first. It may be a weird comparison in several ways...but I thought that the drop in quality was similar to the difference between Burton's Batman and his Batman Returns. Both are good, but one is clearly a much better film.

I think the first is better. But only slightly. But a comparison doesn't even matter to me - I love them both.

In addition to rewatching some old favorites and introducing them to new eyes, I watched a fair number of movies for the first time summer. Off the top of my head I can recall:

At home:
The Expendables 1, 2, and 3
Through A Glass Darkly, Winter Light, and The Silence
Minimalism
Chasing Coral
Dr. Strange
The Conjuring
Guardians of the Galaxy 2
FFXV: Kingslaive
Logan

At the theater:

War for the Planet of the Apes
Dunkirk
Alien: Covenant
Wonder Woman

Hoping to settle back into a solid movie-watching groove now that the semester's here and I have more time at home with the kids in school. :)

over the weekend we watched a Sarah Michelle Gellar double feature...

for a kids movie, Scooby-Doo is fine. Nothing amazing, but there was definitely some laughs in there. Mostly the wink-nudge stuff about Shaggy being a stoner and things that may have flown over kids' heads. I've always felt that James Gunn has had one of the more interesting careers ranging from Tromeo + Juliet, these movies, Slither, Guardians Of The Galaxy...

This was actually a weird little drama. It was okay. I don't know that I'd see it again, but I was kind of glad that we randomly watched it knowing nothing going in. That said, we both figured out the 'surprise' ending well before the last act. And it can feel a bit too slow at times. But it had its moments - at least enough so that we had things to discuss when it was over. SMG's performance was quite good actually, but the movie was just okay.
