Found footage done right, though it could be better.

Not as good as the first one.

Based on a cold war true hero-spy story (though how much is true needs extensive research), Jack Strong is an excellent Polish production. Needless to say, Poland was the first to get the short end of the stick when it came to allied pandering to Mr. Stalin. Realpolitik has zero morality.

my wife had never seen Blade Runner. It was time to save her from embarrassment. Also, because Blade Runner 2049 will be out in October it was important we see this first. She enjoyed the story, but she didn't like the visual aesthetics. She's not quite as big on sci-fi as I am. She's a bit more leaning towards fantasy settings instead.

Anyway, it was great for me to re-watch. It had been years. And it was perfect timing. Having just watched Alien: Covenant last week, I really picked up on how much Covenant purposely hinted at little connections. (I'm reminded of Isiolia stating that not everything has to be a shared universe, and I know that many fans feel that same way... but I'm a sucker for such things especially in franchises that I'm pretty obsessed with haha).

Our proposed October list is already so long that we figured F it, we'll just pull one from there now. I watched The Faculty alone last year and had a blast, so now we watched it together. We're still reeling from Dawson's Creek withdrawal even though we finished the series about a month ago. As such, we're happy to get little fixes of Kevin Williamson where we can.

The Faculty is awesome. It's totally homage. It's The Thing x Body Snatchers in a 90s teen movie. Like literally borrows full scenes wholesale from those movies. And totally recognizes it. But it's really fun the whole time.

So...has anyone else here seen Speed Racer (2008)? I just finished it, and while I had read it was worthy of critical redemption, I had no idea how ridiculously good it would be. It is easily the best Wachowski film, and probably one of the best films of your '00s. (Visually, it is undoubtedly THE best.) If you are a fan of cinema, I really can't recommend it highly enough.

Wait dude what? You are saying that this is better than The Matrix? The Matrix?

I love you bro. And you know this. But I'm slightly worried. I have not seen Speed Racer I admit.

But The Matrix.

Really?

I watched it a while ago and enjoyed it well enough.

Yeah, that was my reaction as well having never seen Speed Racer.

I actually watched four movies over the weekend but it's kinda hard to write about two (Valhalla Rising and 7th Seal) of them and one wasn't really even worth mentioning (the movie about Hitchcock and Psycho) so i only briefly "talk about" John Wick.

Which was okay. It's kinda shame that i didn't really get into it because i think the action was well made but it just lacked something. I think part of the problem is that the main villains are dull and i don't know if this was suppose to be sort of anti movie or whether the villains just are bland. It was also a bummer that the director didn't really take advantage of his cast (Willem Dafoes role was especially disappointing) and i wish the character Harry (black assassin) would have had bigger role.

I do still recomend it for action fans.

It was a great movie to watch while working out on the exercise bike, but I would have been annoyed to just be sitting on a couch or in a theater seat.

I don't want to set your expectations too high; so, I will just say that it is a completely different movie and that, despite being based on an IP from the 1960s, is more original.

Here are a few articles for you:

I think it is a love-it-or-hate-it sort of thing, but I loved it and can't wait to see it again.
