Hello All

I have been lerking around the forum for awhile now, so I figured it was about time to register and introduce myself. In 2009 I began getting back into retro gaming after a family member of mine gave me his old super nintendo and a handful of games. I had a fairly decent collection, until I sold most of it off in 2011. I began collecting again in the last year, and have gathered a small, but handpicked asortment of games.

I am mostly a console gamer and have been really into my Genesis and Master System for the past few months, and I am currently playing through Wonderboy in Monster World on the Genesis, and Phantasy Star on the Master System. My favorite genres include, Side-Scrolling Action RPGs, Platformers, and the strange quirky titles that don't fit into the mold.

Beside gaming and collecting I have a wife and 1 year old son, so they take up any "spare" time I may have. I enjoy movies, and music, indie rock mostly, Also I am an avid fan of motorcyle road racing, MotoGP, SBK, AMA. And I follow a bit of Baseball too.

So here is a bit about me:

My name is Jon, and I recently launched a website "ClassicallyTrained: Life and Leadership Lessons from Classic Video Games"

About me:

- My day job is Manager of Organizational Development in a Healthcare system here in South Florida
- I've been married 11 years, and I have a 3 year old son
- I have been casually collecting retro games for the past 6 years
- My favorite item in my collection is my Neo Geo AES
- I enjoy reading books about personal development, productivity, and leadership
- I grew up as a Nintendo fan, but have embraced everything else in recent years

I'm looking forward to getting to know others on this site, and doing what I can to help you succeed!

Welcome aboard! It is always a pleasure to have another Jon without an H in the community (myself being one)! I, much like you grew up on the other side of the line as a Sega fan and, only until the death of the Dreamcast, did I cave in and embrace all platforms.

Favorite item is the Neo Geo? What games in particular do you have that you find enjoyable for it?

Any items you own that seem strange or obscure. My only gem in the department of strange is the good ol' Neo Geo!

Any particular Genre that you prefer? What about genres that you simply can not get into?

For me, I am a huge fan of Fighting Games, Point-And-Click Adventure Games, as well as any games that have a unique art style, or use storytelling and emotions as primary focus such as Heavy Rain, Journey, Shadow of the Colossus etc. Of genres that I am not a fan of, that title has to go to Real Time Strategy. I tend to have a hard time getting into the genre, as I always feel the restraint of time. I prefer the likes of turn based strategy games like Civilization where I can carefully plan. Time has always been a pressing matter for me in games as I collapse under pressure when time limits are placed on me.

Anywho...sorry for the tangent! Welcome aboard once again and we hope you enjoy your stay!

Thanks for the welcome! I actually crossed over to Sony when the Playstation came out and I had my first brush with Resident Evil...

My fondness for the Neo Geo is more about it's vibe - one of those things I never imagined being able to afford as a 12-13 year old, but now have as an adult. I have Samurai Shodown 1-3 for the system, and only a handful of other games - nothing rare to be honest - like I said, I guess it's the vibe.

I really appreciate all genres of gaming, but I enjoy Fighters (Street Fighter IV), JRPG (Final Fantasy X and earlier), Shmups (Ikaruga), Adventure (Castlevania: SOTN), Action (Devil May Cry), classic Nintendo franchises (Zelda, Mario, Metroid), Survival Horror (Resident Evil 1-3, Silent Hill 1 & 2), and quirky games like Cubivore, Katamari, Noby Noby, Flower, etc.

I don't usually enjoy most sports games(not a sports fan really), or most modern FPS (though I love Half Life 2, Doom, and pretty much everything pre-COD/Modern Warfare).

hi I think im way overdue on joining this forum. been a lurker on the site since..i can't even recall.

console history (in order of acquisition): 2600, nes, gb, snes, ps1, ps2, ds, psp, 360, wii, vita tv, av famicom
though what remains currently is just the famicom, wii, psp, 360 and vita tv.
I did get a FC Twin (Japanese version) recently so I consider myself having a snes/sfc as well.
games I play: mostly fighting games (what my 360 is basically for), scrolling shooters, 2D platforming.
retro game collection: about 56 famicom games (multicarts included), 20 sfc games (hoping to add more soon)
