Kong Skull Island.
It was awesome. Even tho I liked Godzilla a lot...this film takes a little more from Pacific Rim and even ups it in one area. Balance of serious moments with humor. John C Reilly does that really well. It's a great film and the first half of it feels like a nod to 90s summer blockbuster films. It's a nice and subtle nod. I don't want to spoil anything from the island. Only one I will mention since it's in the title is Kong. Kong is awesome but I felt bad for him at times and that just says they did a good job animating him and portraying him. Sam L Jackson even has a nod to a certain 90s film with big creatures. SPFX are great. It's written well. Aside from 1 human character you never really care all that much for the others but honestly it's fine because the most important one does his job.
They thankfully abandoned a bunch of crap from older Kong films. No damsel. No New York. No Empire State Building. While the movie purposefully does some 90s cliches early on it does them well. Then has moments you know where it's goign and they throw you a curve ball and it's great.
Rambling I know. Just if you like big monster films and liked Pacific Rim and/or Godzilla from Legendary then you will like this also. It also makes the wait for Kong vs Godzilla even harder.
What was the last movie you've seen?

Raiders of the Lost Ark
Still the best Indiana Jones, and the poisoned monkey scene still gets me all those decades later

Wow that was bad. There is a reason this fell completely off the radar after it bombed in theaters.

Well, we are only a couple of months away from the start of October. Having talked with noise, we're already in the midst of prepping for our horror movie marathons. Anybody else already getting ready?

Not even close, I'll likely rewatch my favorites this year, but I need to get my hands on one or two that I haven't seen. Guess I need to amazon some of the suggestions I got last year.Ack wrote:Well, we are only a couple of months away from the start of October. I've probably got some horror movies on my watchlist to select from:

Watched Spectre the other day. I heard mixed things about this one but honestly enjoyed it way more than expected. Bautista was an awesome henchman, kind of like Oddjob and Jaws fused. The first half was channeling Roger Moore in a great way, I thought the goofier tone and witty one liners just made it more fun.
The main villain sucked though and when I finally looked down at the time... 45 freaking minutes left. This series needs to stop being 2 hours plus long. I guess they get huge budgets and just blow their load. This could have been chopped up a lot.
I'm still digging the new Q. I'm tired of Craig though, would like to see someone new again. But overall this is probably my second favorite of his after Skyfall. I'm of the unpopular opinion that Casino Royale is just way too long and boring.

Went and saw Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets over vacation. It was exactly as fun and colorful and engaging as I had hoped it would be. It's directed by Luc Besson and the trailers made me think of Fifth Element and it was definitely that in spades. Highly recommended if you liked Fifth Element or if you just want a super fun movie!

Just don't expect a stellar plot. This will definitely be up for some of the technical Oscars, but you can see the parts where they inserted additional issues of the comic for PERIL!Stark wrote:Went and saw Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets over vacation.
