Sure some games are setup that you will always get the highest score at the end of the first run, but that is just the nature of the beast. But this works for the vast majority of games out there. I got to the Ms before I gave up (granted that was a very long time ago).
I agree with this.
When I play any games on the Atari I don't consider myself to have truly beaten them unless I either top the high scores in each SP game mode or if the HS is really low then I play until the levels start looping. As I go through I'll post info for the games I complete. Being the Atari you don't have to worry about credits since a game over means a reset 99% of the time.
I also have a boatload of variants so I might go through and see if there are any notable differences.
If someone wants to consider a game beaten after quarter feeding or using cheats, that's on them. In on the boat with the other guys who have said "I don't care".
Only a few things would rub me the wrong way, say someone saying "I beat Yars' Revenge". And for two very important reasons:
1) It's one of my favorite games. At least in my top 5.
2) You can't beat the game. A high score doesn't mean you beat the game, as it wasn't intended to be beaten. It's a high score.
Post high scores in the 2014 High Score Thread, not the 2014 Games Beaten Thread.

No offense but:
Shucks; sad face and such. Using unlimited lives isn't beating a game.

You missed something here.
Do I think he beat the game? No.
Do I care? No.
Did I point it out? Yes.
Does that mean I care? No.
I don't care that Sam Magus doesn't like my new shoes. I don't care that you don't like my views on yeezus. I don't care that Dave doesn't care that I don't care about his video game course.
If saying "Shucks, you should have tried to actually beat the game without cheating" offends you, you care too much.

You see the end credits roll, then you beat the game. How well you did at it, is another story.
Unlimited credits is cheap as hell. But if the game allows it, and you still beat it, then you beat the game still. It's no different than plunking $20 worth of quarters into a machine to beat it.

The rule is simple: you can list a game as "beaten" on your list if you feel like you've beaten it. It isn't a competition thread or a thread where we take people to task for bucking some "standard". Asking questions of clarification from time to time is fine (e.g. "How do you 'beat' Combat?" or "Wow, did you 1cc that shmup?"), but suggesting that someone can't or shouldn't count a game on their list hasn't ever been the spirit of this thread.
Pretty much this.
I can't understand why this topic is still being debated. It isn't a competition and even if it was no one here is padding their list with loopers or credit-feeders anyway...
