It is kind of a pain. I tend to drop in and out of actively following. Lately I've been completely out of the loop as I don't have a local shop anymore. More than anything though, I collect and read finished runs of stuff that I think will be a good read. 90s Vertigo was the best.
Comicvine is your friend for finding volumes and runs and such. And if you have issues with the alternate universes and such, Marvel is #1 to avoid. DC is bad about it, but Marvel is the worst.

DC has also recently had a reboot, a good jumping on point if you would be interested. Dark Horse, Image, and other non big 2 comic companies are also easier to follow.

That's the right attitude.

Shit changes so much (and so frequently nowadays) that it hardly matters anyway. Jump in on a character you think you might like and roll with it, see where it takes you.

I had no idea that was out until I saw it at Target today. I might pick it up at some point.

I'm a tad bit interested, I guess. Just because it's Deadpool. Not familiar with the developer at all though, I'd have to check out some gameplay videos.

Deadpool looks cool but I'll wait for reviews. I just hope it's not a bad game like so many I was suckered into buying. AKA Aliens Colonial Marines.

Erm....because there are good comics and bad comics? Just like every other medium?

That isn't how comics work though. Comics are design so you can jump in at basically any moment.

Also, there are plenty of comics that have set beginnings and set endings.

So the surfing lava section of conker live & reloaded is allmost broken... i compared it with the N64 version and it plays A LOT better. I'll try to beat that section tomorrow with after a rest, i died at least 15 times.

Generally I just google around for the most acclaimed story arcs for a given character and just pick up trades. That way, you get a complete story in one go.

Single issues add up quite a bit cost wise, and they're usually crammed full of ads anyway.

Not lately. TPBs have been going up in price (probably due to popularity because so many people have your mentality about it). The last few months I've been looking at the recent TPBs and thinking, "Are they serious with this price?"

And if their back-issues that are 6 months or older (and aren't Silver or Golden Age), you can usually get the singles for MUCH cheaper than ANY TPB.
