I've been listening to listener calls on CSPAN radio and it's apparent a majority of the callers have no idea how the world works

Tunisia seems to be holding on, even if by a thread, despite their huge problems. I reckon that's one of the pluses of having an educated population.

I know the answer is "money", but what makes both donald trump and kanye west feel qualified to run for President?

The current POTUS is purportedly smart, but the system remains the system!

I would settle for 10% of this.Luke wrote:Forget about "Great" Let's make America smart competent again.

The power of imagery trumps everything else. We've been hearing stories of mass drownings for years, but this image has prompted a lot of responses. How many more will have to die or be displaced before Sykes–Picot's legacy comes to pass?

If phones were used for talking to people, I believe everyone would be a bit smarter.Cronozilla wrote:I would settle for 10% of this.Luke wrote:Forget about "Great" Let's make America smart competent again.
If the jenners and kardashians were swept off the planet, maybe the world would be a little smarter. I'm talking in a media sense. I don't want the entire family to die, just off media. Totally.

IDK about that. Have you ever heard random people talking on their cell phones?Luke wrote:If phones were used for talking to people, I believe everyone would be a bit smarter.
But I get your point.

Point taken. I hear random people driving, talking on their mobile, while smoking, with the radio on.Ziggy587 wrote:IDK about that. Have you ever heard random people talking on their cell phones?Luke wrote:If phones were used for talking to people, I believe everyone would be a bit smarter.

I'm having around a dozen people over tonight for "Wings and Things" (it is as dorky as it sounds, but with booze) and I already know that at the picnic table half of the crew will be dicking around on their phones and will not participate in discussion. I'm close to the point of collecting mobile phones at my front door.

What are you talking about? I would say the average person is more informed today than before smart phones. The internet is access to knowledge and information and making it easier to access is a good thing. But I guess you are only talking in a labor sense, and yes I would agree being more informed and less ignorant is not going to get people to do minial tasks and accept substandard pay.Luke wrote:If phones were used for talking to people, I believe everyone would be a bit smarter.Cronozilla wrote:I would settle for 10% of this.Luke wrote:Forget about "Great" Let's make America smart competent again.

What are you talking about? Seriously, what planet do you live on where people are using their phone for research and access to information other than where the nearest McDonald's is?
The Internet provides access to information...sure. Is that what people use it for? No.
Phones are mostly used for texting, playing candy crush, checking fb pages, and watching porn. No one is really doing critical or meaningful research via mobile. That's why we have these things called computers and offices.
A good friend of mine is the beat writer for ECU sports. His phone never shuts up, and yes, he is receiving information (most of which he ignores) but not once have I seen him use his phone to access information. He uses it to watch porn and text people to please leave him alone when not on the clock.
I'd even guesstimate that 20% of phone usage goes to actual vocal communication.
