Let's talk about your NEO GEO collecting + PRICE GUIDES
Re: Let's talk about your NG MVS / AES / CD & NGPC collectin
I'm not even going to say how jealous I am of the deals you got. Nor am I even going to mention the trade with mjmjr25. Lucky you. Looks very nice, and the SCART is just the icing on the cake.

I'm both delighted and worried that this forum seems to have caught AES fever. Delighted, because it's a fantastic system to collect. Worried, because this will lead to more competitive bidding for AES stuff.

Great setup, Mark!
@dedalus - yeah, it's been a crash course, for sure. I'm learning something knew just about everyday in regard to pricing, region release numbers, alternative artworks, conversions, etc.
End of the day - arcade stuff at home is really a comfort zone to me, so having the option to collect arcade-at-home CIB stuff is really intriguing and for me personally, sorta surprised it took me the past 4 years of dabbling all around the edges to realize this is really fits all my wants from this hobby:
Get in - Get out play
Fighters / Shmups / Puzzlers
Retro, but not dated graphics
Arcade Quality "ports", for lack of a better word
Games / art / cases on a giant scale
huge collector niche'
Everything that I really enjoy, for sure.

Exactly! The appeal of Neo Geo is that the all the games are pick-up-and-play, since they're direct ports of the arcade and had that style specifically in mind. Graphics-wise, I consider the Neo Geo to be the pinnacle of good old-fashioned 2D sprite-based video gaming.mjmjr25 wrote:Great setup, Mark!

Of course, there's also a lot of additional charm to AES that you don't get with MVS. There's this charmingly bombastic tone in the writing style of the inserts and manuals, that could only have been captured by someone for whom English is a second language. It's probably the last system that featured "Engrish."
Mike, I gotta say that I've enjoyed watching your PCB collecting through your game room thread, so I hope that AES collecting is everything you expect.

I've been meaning to jump in and share my modest collection also. I'll start with the NGPC. Have three complete games - one of which came from Mr. Noiseredux himself (sat on his BST list for months before I bit...and before he started collecting for the system IIRC), that being Match of the Millennium.
I originally won a lot on eBay (I have the box for the system also - everything complete there; I did replace the battery) and it included two of the clamshell slot machine games. I traded them with a member here for the CIB Baseball Stars and Pocket Tennis as he needed them to nearly complete his set. Value-wise they were pretty comparable from my research at the time (two years ago now).

Re: Let's talk about your NG MVS / AES / CD & NGPC collectin
I know I'm bumping an old quote but one of my bigger regrets was not buying SVC Chaos for $300 new through neo-geo.com a couple years back. They had it on their store for a while and I waffled on it given the price point.mjmjr25 wrote: I'm holding out for an AES version now. Got sniped on one yesterday at last second, had a bid of $255 and it went for one bid higher :/
I wish my OCD would allow me to collect kits, but i'd need them ALL to be kits. The few i've had drove me nuts sitting by their lonesome. There's been some real nice higher end kits on neo lately - Twinkle Star Sprites and Super Dodgeball among others. Been hard to stay away, but I know I won't be able to enjoy them.

Hey guys, what would cause this issue with this cab? Is it a monitor or board? Its the cheapest MVS cab I have seen in my area, and if it could be fixed easliy I might try to talk him down a little bit.

edit: Did some quick research, and it could be as easy as cleaning battery acid that leaked on the board. IF that doesnt do it, it could be fixed by replacing the "crystal" but I didnt look too far into that yet. Worst case it would need a new board, which seem to go for under $100.

^Most likely bad battery (leaking, corrosive) on the motherboard. It isn't a chassis issue (so that's good) and it isn't the monitor itself.
It is either the game is dirty (possible, not likely), the pin connector is dirty (possible, not likely) or a bad battery or cap on the 1-slot.
Metal Slug 5 is a decently pricey game - $55-60, or more if minty label.
The damaged 1-slot (not working) is still worth $25-30 and you have solder skills, so you could probably repair it anyways.
I'd offer $175 and feel like you got a nice buy. Either you fix the 1-slot at no cost, or you spend $75 on a new/working 1-slot and you still get a working cab w/game for $250.
Take a look at the 1-slot and see if the battery started to leak, or if any other caps are in need of obvious repair, if so, you can feel good that that is the problem and take care of it, or just replace it.

Awesome, you beat me to my edit haha. I have no problem soldering and fixing it, I just wanted to know if it was the board, since I dont want to deal with a bad monitor. Im gonna call him up in just a little bit, hopefully I can go check it out today.mjmjr25 wrote:^Most likely bad battery (leaking, corrosive) on the motherboard.
