It's not just Naughty Dog. Sony's developers in general aren't the ones innovating anything. What they do best is taking existing genres and gameplay types and mix their own flavor into it.

I don't know that this is fair, really. There's a ton of stuff on PSN that is unlike what you can find elsewhere - everything from thatgamecompany's stuff (Journey, Flower, Flow) to titles like Unfinished Swan, Echochrome, Papo and Yo, Dust 514, some of the PixelJunk stuff, etc. Even disc-based stuff like the LBP and ModNation series innovates the idea of user-generated content for consoles unlike anything else.BoringSupreez wrote:It's not just Naughty Dog. I'd venture that, outside of the PC, the PSN is the place to look right now for innovation in game design/game experiences.

I totally forgot about PSN. Yeah, for smaller experiences PSN is pretty unique. I can't think of anything similar to Flower elsewhere.dsheinem wrote:I don't know that this is fair, really. Let strength be granted, so the world might be mended...so the world might be mended.

Twisted Metal - PS1
Twisted Metal 2 - PS1
Twisted Metal III - PS1
Twisted Metal 4 - PS1
Screaming Mad George's Paranoiascape - PS1
N.O.V.A. - PSP
Jetpack Joyride - Vita
Devil May Cry (2013) - 360
BlazBlu: Continuum Shift Extend - Vita
Fighting Masters - Genesis
Kirby's Epic Yarn - Wii
Cruis'n - Wii
Total: 12
2012 Games Beaten
2011 Games Beaten
2010 Games Beaten
Holy Moley another Wii game!
Cruis'n is not a good racing game by most measures - the graphics are poor, the controls are janky, the AI is questionable, and everything about it feels rushed. That said, the Cruis'n series has long been one of my favorite "stupid arcade racing" series and this game absolutely does it's N64-ported predecessors proud. Ridiculous glitches, no concept of physics, tracks designed to maximize ludicrous jumps, and caricatured versions of famous locales make this one fun to blow through in a few hours, and considering it can be found for under $10, I think a lot of folks here would like it once they switch the control scheme to the d-pad and learn to approach it like the N64 titles.
Kudos to sevin0seven for reminding me to play this one by championing it from time to time. Next up: I should really finish Sonic Colors while I have my Wii setup...

For serious. I love the plot and narrative that they worked into Colors. Generally I'm not that fond of story in Sonic games, but Colors reminds me a lot of the Saturday morning cartoons. (Not Adventures; even though I preferred Adventures as a kid.)dsheinem wrote:Next up: I should really finish Sonic Colors while I have my Wii setup...
Also, Planet Wisp is pretty f-ing amazing--whatever. Oh, and the soundtrack, but what's new.

Re: Games Beaten 2013
Dave, you should really consider ajusting the colour on the word Wii. As on the default forum theme it doesn't show up unless you highlight it.

Screw the default, AcidTech is basically the original default and that is where it's atMrHealthy wrote:Dave, you should really consider ajusting the colour on the word Wii. As on the default forum theme it doesn't show up unless you highlight it.
I watched about 2 minutes of the first and second cutscene and have been skipping them all ever since. I don't like Sonic to talk, I don't like Sonic's friends, and I have never had any interest in the comic or cartoon.pierrot wrote: For serious. Re: Games Beaten 2013
I just switched to AcidTech to try it out and it makes my eyes want to puke. Neon yellow and blue on black. Plus the top is all busted since its being listed down instead of across.dsheinem wrote:Screw the default, AcidTech is basically the original default and that is where it's at![]()
My poor eyes ....
