Metroid would have had some good competition if Blaster Master didn't fade and dip in quality after the first game. It was released 2 years after the original Metroid I believe, but it's definitely better in many ways to me. One of my absolute favorites for sure. Still love Metroid to death though. I put Super far above anything else in the genre, the CV's, etc.

I haven't played a lot of them. Only Super Turrican on Super Nintendo (or maybe it was Super Turrican 2, not sure). But that one had regular levels. Not a huge open world, like in the Metroid games. If they're all like that, then they're not really the same type of game.

-I can't stand the term "Gamer", it sound so fake and forced when people use it. I never heard the word used until around 2004/2005....marketing tool or people creating a word to make video games more than it is.....who knows? I know I just hate it.

-Earthbound and most of the SNES library are not that great and are way overpriced

-I hate LOZ: Link to the past....Loved Minish cap and Ocarina of time though

-Could careless about Mass effect story or atmosphere ( I hate the American space viewpoints/concepts about aliens, battleships, etc)

- Hate Psychonauts and its design choices.

- NIGHTS dream is boring as hell

- I hate the otaku influences on modern JRPG...the perversion is way out of control.

- Secret of Mana battle system sucks

- Soul Blazer is better than Illusion of Gaia and Terranigma

- Wished more games were shorter rather than longer

- There are only a couple of great Retro games per Retro System......people need to stop portraying "retro times" as great times. There were tons of shovelware back then....moreso than now.

- The Wii is the best Video Game system out right now......All the other boxes focus too much on interactive movies

I agree.

-Earthbound and most of the SNES library are not that great and are way overpriced

Never played Earthbound, but I think the SNES had a better good game to bad game ratio than any current gen system. I agree prices are a bit high.

-I hate LOZ: Link to the past....Loved Minish cap and Ocarina of time though

I love LTTP. I thought Minish Cap was too gimicky with the shrinkage aspect.

-Could careless about Mass effect story or atmosphere ( I hate the American space viewpoints/concepts about aliens, battleships, etc)

Why exactly? Care to elaborate?

- NIGHTS dream is boring as hell

Its hit or miss with me. I don't love it but sometimes Its fun.

- I hate the otaku influences on modern JRPG...the perversion is way out of control.

I dont think this is really an otaku influence. Japanese culture has always been sorta...perverted. We just got the dumbed down version for the longest time. Watch some anime from the early 90's. Theres some pretty perverted stuff and that was well before the otaku craze.

- Secret of Mana battle system sucks

Elaborate? I always liked it. Im not a big fan of turn based most of the time.

- Soul Blazer is better than Illusion of Gaia and Terranigma

- Wished more games were shorter rather than longer
Id like main games to be shorter, with more extra stuff to do.

- There are only a couple of great Retro games per Retro System......people need to stop portraying "retro times" as great times. There were tons of shovelware back then....moreso than now.

This I disagree with. It all depends on your taste. I for one think the graphics back then are way better than what we have now. Pixels>3D rendered graphics IMO. Not to mention All I know is I can put in any retro game and play it, and even if it sucks, its 'good enough' that I can keep playing it. I wanna try and beat it. Most games I play for the current gen systems, I know within 10 minutes of playing it If im going to beat it or not, If not, I just quit. Never play it again because i don't get any fun out of it.

- The Wii is the best Video Game system out right now......All the other boxes focus too much on interactive movies

-I could possibly agree with this one. Just for the fact that I can definetly name more Wii games that I like than any other current gen system. I play Ps3 more than Wii, but only for a handful of games.

How could you know that the SNES had a better good game to bad game ratio unless you've played every SNES game and every Wii, 360, PS3,PSP, DS, Vita & Wii-U game :o?

Everything about it screamed "watered-down, hand-holding crap" from the get go. It is my very least favorite 2D Metroid, despite the almost near universal praise (outside us Metroid/Super Metroid purists).

The only thing that's really watered down is they tell you where you have to go next to have more narrative at the cost of some exploration. However they don't tell you how to get there and the puzzles are just as clever as Super Metroid's.

Also the combat is way more difficult in Fusion with even minor enemies doing a lot of damage which is either good or bad depending on your perspective.

I just don't really agree with the idea that Fusion holds the players hand beyond pointing you in the right direction. Metroid 2 is even more linear and every modern Metroid game tells you where to go (though you can turn it off in Prime if you want).

The first two Turrican games are a bit more open than any of the the Super/Mega games (Super Turrican 2 and Mega Turrican especially favor straight-up action) but even so you're not wrong.

I love Turrican and people are often comparing the two but I don't really agree. Turrican is separated into levels and isn't really an open world. In Metroid the exploration serves a purpose, you're constantly improving your character so that you can reach new places you couldn't before. In Turrican there's big levels to explore but nothing to discover, you're just on a hunt for the exit.

It is a shame that Blaster Master sort of crapped out and went away after the first game (yeah I know there were others but except for the remix on the GBC none of them are worth playing). A Blaster Master with a Super Metroid/Castlevania style mapping system would be awesome.

Well you could argue A Link to the Past is gimmicky with the light and dark world. Every Zelda game has a gimmick that's what makes them unique from one another. Though it's weird to like Minish Cap but not ALttP since they're pretty similar in a lot of respects. I love them both and I'm not a big Zelda fan. I just played Minish Cap fairly recently and I really enjoyed it.

As for NiGHTS, I don't really think it's the masterpiece a lot of people hail it as either. I feel like it's more of a flashy tech demo, though it's apparent a lot of passion and artistry went into it. It's fun for what it is but there's not really much to it.

3D graphics are ultimately rendered in pixels anyway.

Thank you! I'm not the only one!

And I also agree with you about the length of a lot of modern games. A lot of them seem to have a lot of padding.

Well you know what I mean.

And as far as the good game to bad game ratio, all I know Is I can name at least double the amount of games on SNES I enjoyed compared to PS3, 360, and Wii combined. And im not even a big SNES fan. I don't think any one system is the clear best, but I think earlier systems had more widely acclaimed games of different genres.
