Thuggin EP from Madlib and Freddie Gibbs. 2 songs that hopefully grow into a full LP.

Thuggin' and Deep.

^nice. Madlib is brilliant. I'm a HUGE fan of all of his Yesterdays New Quintet and related jazz albums. Actually, The Funky Side of Life (released as Sound Directions) is probably my favorite thing he's ever done.

The only Madlib material I've listened to was the Madvillany collaboration with MF Doom and OJ Simpson collaboration with Guilty Simpson. So just about everything you mentioned flew by my head.

lol. It's understandable. He has one of the biggest discographies this side of Frank Zappa or Sun Ra. But bottomline is he had a fake jazz band (every player in the band was really just him) called Yesterdays New Quintet. They put out some albums and EP's, and then they all made "solo" albums as well and eventually all branched out into even MORE fake jazz bands like Yesterdays Universe, Sound Directions, The Last Electro-Acoustic Space Jazz & Percussion Ensemble, and many more. It's KIND OF hard to keep up with the whole thing, but it's also a lot of fun to try and quite frankly thrilling to hear. In fact, all the YNQ stuff is probably some of the most exciting music to me released in the past decade. It's one of the few artists that I try to be really meticulous about y'know? Not Madlib in general, as it's hard to keep track of EVERYTHING he does. But like I said, the jazz stuff is my favorite. For a starting point (if you are interested) he released in album last year under the Madlib name called High Jazz, which is basically a compilation of a bunch of the different YNQ groups. And in 2007 a similar compilation was released called Yesterdays Universe.

Big K.R.I.T. ft. 8Ball, MJG & 2 Chainz-Money On The Floor (NSFW)

I highly doubt that Def Jam paid for the video to promote this as the 'official' single from Big K.R.I.T.'s debut.

Someone should get us started on one of those threads. Here's last year's: http://www.racketboy.com/forum/viewtopi ... 15&t=27442

That thread had some excellent music I was glad to check out and, subsequently, pick up. Another thread this year would be golden.
