A wild Retron 5 Update has appeared!
This is no ordinary update, because inside the update also contains system hardware update 0.3.0!
So then, the features of update 2.4 (no beta!)
- Various optimizations and fixes included, resulting in the unit running cooler and more stable
- Fast cartridge loading
- Cheat code support added for GBA games
- Added support for loading SRAM saves created by third party emulators
- Fast forward modified to toggle on/off with the configured button combo, rather than the old hold to activate method
- Many game compatibility fixes
Get it here, and remember that the new 0.3.0 update is bundled with this 2.4 update. I already have it on mine. The faster boot time is a nice feature (I was using 2.0 BETA 5/6 for the longest time), and I'm liking the FF improvement as well as the potential to bring over emulator saves.

Now that's interesting. The old tech if he's still even working it was wanting to do that toggle and restoration of the fast loading for a long time, but also the off brand .sav loading so you can jack good saves from the internet.
I wonder what all 0.3.0 has, don't recall what I have on mine anymore, stopped updating it after the betas started getting crappier a good year ago. I may just have to update it, but I don't use the thing.

Your hardware version was probably the previous build that was being shipped on to the new units, 0.2.0.
I can confirm fast cartridge loads are on 2.4, and my Soldiers of Fortune (SNES) cartridge is recognized, which was what kept me on 2.0 until now, the versions between 2.0 and 2.4 didn't recognize it. I haven't had the chance to try other games yet, but this is a non-beta build and it's working well so far. I'd put it in just for the general hardware stability fixes, if anything.

Hmm I didn't see the link to 0.3.0 on their site I bookmarked just 2.4, guess I'll poke around. I either need to get off my ass and *A* USE IT or *B* SELL IT as collecting dust is bullcrap. Might as well just pull the old top loader and SNES out if I wanted a shelf ornament to barely use and stare at.
I'm running 0.2.2 system firmware / 2.3beta2 for game firmware

2.4 includes the 0.3.0 update (in one file), so if you want that, you have to install the 2.4 update.

I figured that out when I put 2.4 on there, never saw them roll up 2 updates in 1 like that before I don't believe. They used to be independent installs. I've yet to use it yet, but it's flashed.

So we haven't heard anything new about that gamegear adapter in about a year. I guess we shouldn't hold our breath on that one.
I mentioned something in another thread about how Hyperkin and other tech companies treat April Fools Day as an excuse to test the waters and gauge consumer interest in new products. viewtopic.php?f=38&t=48846&start=20
Basically, on April Fools Day tech companies get to announce strange new products without worrying about backlash, deadlines, or actually producing a product at all. Kind of like the kickstarter community does year round. If the new product idea is a flop, no big deal. It was just a joke afterall, and you're the dummy if you didn't catch the April Fools joke. If the new product idea is a hit, It may actually go into production. It was never a joke, and you're a dummy if you think they were joking.
As you can tell, I find this kind of nonsense a little bit two faced.
Well, at this year's CES Hyperkin was showing off their Smart Boy adapter. You know, the one that was an April Fools "joke" a few years ago.
Good ol' Hyperkin is up to the same old tricks.

Good point, and I'd like to have that, but it's android only and it won't fit my tablet.

Re: WELL THIS IS INTERESTING.. Retron 5
Now that I have a smartphone, that could be something to consider.
Otherwise, update 2.4 is the best yet. It includes the fast boot and I've had no problems with unknown cartridges like in those updates between the 2.0 betas and right now.
