Video Game "Look what I found"

An unbelievable story about today's trip to Goodwill.

I went to the local retro store to trade in my NES, the guy says that they don't take them so I'm bummed, but just then a guy walks in front of me in an isle and asks how much I want for it and I said, he accepts and walks out. With this new $20 bill in my pocket I head to Goodwill and find a Gamecube controller and a graphing calculator from the 80s for $3.

I went to the next Goodwill down the road and couldn't find anything but decided to really dig into the wall of electronic vomit in the back and pulled a Logitech Squeezebox radio out of the pile.




I started digging around more and found a strange hunk of plastic that looked like a TurboDuo. I couldn't figure out what it was and just assumed it was some piece of audio equipment because it said Magnavox on it. I then noticed the words "Interactive" on it and knew that it had to be a game console. I realized what it was...





I'm only missing the controller, I wasn't able to find it anywhere. I paid $2.99 for the CD-I (works) and $3.99 for the Squeezebox.

Made some pickups today, got Zack and Wiki and A Boy and his Blob for the Wii. Both complete, $8 for the two. Alphabetically the first and last game in my Wii collection on the same day.

Also hit a thrift store and got a green N64 for $15. Only came with the power cable, no controllers or AV cable, but it did have a memory expansion inside. Took some serious cleaning but it looks and works good now.

That is sweet, congrats! Two obscure devices, both worth looking into getting a full run.

You mentioned the CD-I works, does that mean just powering on? It possibly could be tested with a regular music CD? At least you can verify if the reader and audio output functions or not.

The WiFi Receiver looks real interesting, curious how well it will pull various online stations. My favorite radio station from another city is just out of reach on most days, this could be the workaround instead of booting up the PC radio website streaming!

Yeah I know the CDi has a timekeeper battery that goes bad and needs to be changed, but I honestly don't know what happens when it goes bad, since mine was bought refurbished (for a fair bit more than 2.99 I might add!) with a new battery already put in. I might suggest you look into finding a backup copy of a game to test the actual game functionality with.

I have only turned it on an got to the menu screen. I don't have any blank CDs left to burn a game but I'm assuming that it works. Funny thing is that I was telling y Girlfriend to take a picture of it because of how close it looked to a TurboDuo or something. I almost passed on it.

Wow, lots of good N64 and SNES stuff. I need some Uncles like that!

Wii Dream Pinball - $3.59 Gamestop
This plays a lot like the PC games. The view mode can be set to six different zoom modes tracking the ball up close or zoomed all the way out seeing the entire table at once. A nice touch using each trigger of the Wiimote and Nunchuck as a flipper button. Even in the NES controller mode the Dpad and 2 button works out pretty well. Best part is an option to turn off the motion controll and default to the other buttons. All Wii games should have this option.

Metal Gear Solid 4 Hardback Art and Guide Book - $3.99 Goodwill
A very nice find and so pristine, the attendant was placing stickers on donated books just received and this was in the stack!

Vaders Little Princess - Birthday present from Daughter
Along with a nice bottle of wine that she had covered up with a Obi Wine Kenobi label. The book puns a father (Darth Vader) and daughter (Princess Lea) relationship thru the years.

The book puts a twist on famous quotes from the movie, funny stuff!

Just like dropping the kids off in the "rat hot rod" chevy.

Wii Overlord - $4.49 Gamestop
After hearing the obscurity of a decent exclusive Wii version to the Overlord series, had to buy this. A bit of Pikmin and Battalion Wars mixed, controlling the small army.

SNES Star Fox with Manual - $18.00 shipped Ebay
Not an outstanding deal, but I had to get at least one FX chip game to try on my Supaboy II Portable and this is a decent game. Happy to post the Supaboy II plays the FX game just fine.

SNES Donkey Kong Country 2 - from Omerta
Ooh yeah, another game for the portable with "higher resolution graphics" then the GBA rerelease.

SNES Space Football - $3.00 Swap Meet
I do not like Sports games, but jumped on this. I took a guess that it would be inspired by Atari 5200/7800 Ball Blazer. Though not quite as good, certainly so much better then the followup PS1 Ballblazer Champions. What makes this good as in the original is maintaining the "FPS" point of view.

Xbox Broken Sword - from Omerta
Reviewed as a movie style of adventure game, so had to get it.

Crazy Taxi 3 - from Omerta
Finally got this game, I love both the Dreamcast versions. This takes a crazy drive in Vegas, lots off neon.

Iron Phoenix - FREE from Omerta
Thrown in as bonus extra included with the other games I bought. A fighting game, this should work with a PS2 Arcade Stick and adapters.

Lego Star Wars - $2.00 Thrift Store
Bought part 2 recently and have both on the PS2 as well. Gee maybe all these Star War games is why the daughter got me that book?
