Soooo I've recently been reading
this article for my job. Turns out that with all the big talks about sanctions, tensions, novichok etc, Western countries are still happy to have the Russians buy houses in Germany and Spain, and to buy gas and rocket engines lol. Looks like we're getting played with!

Just a reminder for folks new and old alike. Unless it intersects directly with games or gaming, politics is off-limits.

Are torrents still going? I know they still exists but its a long way from its hey day. After all the digital stores, Netflix for $10/m, software going subscription, and people going for instant streaming over downloading , their popularity seem to have been falling down big time.
Also after KAT going down and PB having issues (heard the founders had an argument in between them) and gov. surveillance and privacy concerns, no one feels comfortable to use them.
It saddens me because Bittorrent was one of the most perfect software technologies I have ever used, it was simple to use and never fails. Stop and pickup from any where any time. Unfortunately its use was mostly for illegal items, although I wish it had more legal uses.

Torrents still exist, and they have tons of legit uses for large file delivery. I feel like a lot of your technology opinions are not well-founded.

Torrents are still a great way to offload hosting costs when people are willing to use the option. I would imagine most Linux distributions, and some open source software has options for downloading via torrent, still. All DRM free Humble downloads have the option of using a torrent magnet, and they actually try to influence people to use it with files over 2GB, by bringing up a pop-up window about it. I have no idea about the "wares" side of torrenting, though.

I know they still exist, but their popularity have dramatically decreased and I am looking at 3-4 years into the future.
What are the legit uses? I only know its used for Linux downloads and maybe some other Open Source software. I just learned from Pierrot that you can download some games on Humble using it but thats all that I know about torrents and legit uses.

You are daft. People tell you and you ignore them because you are entrenched in your views. Open your eyes and ears or stop asking questions you have no interest in hearing answers to.

I sense a bit of hostility, and I'm not sure I see how asking a lot of questions really warrants it. Who is being hurt by some innocuous questions about technology, for the purposes of discussion? There is an option of ignoring the questions, if one chooses.
